Kolm

Kolm is the company’s practical blacksmith, repairing boots, armor, and other gear while serving as a legionnaire. His craft makes him useful on campaign, and his resilience lets him continue working through injuries and dangerous expeditions. (Chapters 21, 25–26, 46–61, 123, 142–146)

Biography

Company smith and soldier

Kolm is initially away from the assembled company while helping Adrian and Castile secure supplies and accommodations. He is described as the company’s “pseudo-blacksmith,” a role he takes seriously: when discussing his share of a reward, he plans to buy enchanted boots so his feet will stop hurting. His practical role extends to making replacement fittings at the Citadel forge and fixing damaged boots for the soldiers. (Chapters 21, 26, 38, 56, 61)

Kolm also serves in the field. He joins patrols, suffers a broken ankle while jumping from a roof during the city operation, and later returns to watch despite limping. In the underground escape, he repairs armor and helps the company keep its equipment usable. His craft sits alongside his combat service rather than replacing it. (Chapters 25, 39, 46–47, 52, 57–58)

A familiar presence in the expedition

Kolm appears throughout the company’s transition from city duty to dungeon exploration. He participates in the company’s social life, admits that he cannot swim, and is rescued from drowning by Firth. Later he fights Eryk in a company sparring round and is described as a short, muscular legionnaire whose strength suits his forge work. (Chapters 74–75, 82, 123)

When the company reaches the Shimmering Labyrinth, Kolm is among the soldiers scouting its entry rooms. He is also present during the later regrouping and logistical preparations. By the time the company’s routes begin to diverge, he remains one of the familiar soldiers whose trade skills help sustain the group. (Chapters 142–146, 166, 169–180)

Appearance and personality

Kolm is short and strongly built, with the arms of a working smith. He is practical and sometimes wry; he jokes with Benito about moving stone and freely admits his limitations in the water. (Chapters 26, 74, 123, 130)

Magic and abilities

Kolm’s established specialty is metalworking and repair. He makes replacement hardware, repairs boots and armor, and can work at the company forge. The text does not establish personal spellcasting or a numeric combat score. (Chapters 38, 56, 61, 102)
