Isaak

Isaak serves as first mate aboard Captain Desdemona’s ship, the Shorebreaker. He helps keep the vessel and its crew functioning through a sudden political crisis and a dangerous attack at sea. (Chapters 252–260)

Biography

Sailing out of Telha

Isaak is identified as Desdemona’s first mate when Eryk seeks passage out of the city. Once the Shorebreaker is at sea, he takes the helm and helps maintain the ship through rough weather. When an enormous swell throws the vessel off balance, Isaak checks on Desdemona and reports that the ship has come safely down the other side. (Chapters 252–255)

The sahuagin attack

During the attack by sahuagin, Isaak stays with the crew and helps defend the vessel. He accepts a runic sword from Eryk, while the crew works to stabilize the injured and protect the ship from further attacks. Afterward, he discusses the likelihood of another assault and the ice forming beneath the hull, showing practical concern for the ship’s safety. (Chapters 257–259)

Isaak is still with the surviving crew when the Shorebreaker returns to port. He reports that Desdemona and Vodoma have gone to deliver news of the attack and the newly discovered dungeon, while local people watch over the ship as the crew mourns its dead. (Chapter 260)

Appearance and personality

The chapters give little physical description of Isaak. In his work as first mate, he is attentive and level-headed, responding quickly to the ship’s movement and staying focused on the crew during the attack. (Chapters 255–259)

Magic and abilities

Isaak’s established role is seamanship. He works the helm and helps defend the Shorebreaker during the sahuagin attack. No spellcasting or other magical ability is associated with him. (Chapters 252–259)
