David
David is a Hound who assists during Eryk’s trainee period. He watches the recruits during field exercises and participates in the practical training that tests whether they can follow instructions under pressure. (Chapters 213–223)
Biography
Watching the new cohort
David is part of the Hound operation that receives Eryk and the other recruits. He is present during the trainee group’s initial field preparation and joins the instructors who monitor their progress. The trainees’ movement through the city and surrounding terrain gives the Hounds a chance to observe how they handle unpredictable situations. (Chapters 213–218)
David and Hearne watch the trainees during their search for a prisoner, and Eryk notices the instructors monitoring the group. The training requires the recruits to act independently while still understanding when their actions might endanger others. (Chapter 218)
David’s name appears again during the later Hound exercises, including the city-awareness test and the return to the barracks. His role is modest but sustained across the training arc; the narrative does not establish a separate personal storyline beyond his work with the new Hounds. (Chapters 219–223)
Appearance and personality
The chapters give little physical description of David. They establish him as a watchful Hound operative who participates in observing and preparing the new recruits. (Chapters 213–223)
Magic and abilities
David’s documented contribution is field supervision and Hound training. No personal spellcasting or numeric score is established. (Chapters 213–223)
