Biography

A Foundation Bought with Loyalty

After failing in the Fallen Sword World, Zhao Wuchang occupies an awkward position between Inner Sect status and Foundation Establishment. With Earthstring Foundation Establishment no longer available, he organizes with other failed disciples to exchange information about the Mortal-Dao path and invites Bai Xiaochun's disguised “Nightcrypt” identity to join them. During the Blood Precipice trial, Nightcrypt's sudden strength turns Zhao's wary competition into respect. Zhao's clan is declining while enemy clans have gained new Foundation Establishment cultivators, so he makes a decisive bargain: everything he owns and a drop of soul-blood, giving Nightcrypt power over his life, for one Foundation Establishment Pill. Nightcrypt accepts the soul-blood and gives him exactly one pill. Zhao consumes it, successfully forms a spiritual sea at Mortal-Dao Foundation Establishment, and addresses Nightcrypt as master. He remains respectfully behind him before choosing Lesser Marsh Peak; the source does not state whether their bond or the soul-blood control continues later. (Chapters 186–196)

Appearance and personality

The corpus supplies no physical description of Zhao Wuchang. He is sociable enough to organize peers in the same predicament, competitive during the Blood Precipice trial, and intensely practical about his clan's danger. His willingness to surrender soul-blood shows desperation and uncommon decisiveness, while his conduct after success remains consistently respectful. His later personality and appearance are unknown. Abilities and cultivation

Zhao begins below Foundation Establishment after failing in the Fallen Sword World. A Foundation Establishment Pill lets him create a spiritual sea and enter Mortal-Dao Foundation Establishment, explicitly weaker than the Earthstring form but still a stable breakthrough. He can also extract a drop of blood containing a sliver of his soul and surrender it to another person, allowing that holder to kill him with a thought.
