Biography

Yielding the Inquisitor's Position

Zhao Feng begins as a respected specialist whom Squad 9 trusts to break Old Devil Zhou after the other cellblocks fail. Because he cannot make the prisoner speak, he treats Bai Xiaochun's disguised identity with open scorn and assumes the newcomer is trying to bluff. Watching Bai apply psychological torment without leaving physical marks overturns that judgment. Zhao recognizes deliberate control in the prisoner's screams, despair, and frustrated readiness to confess, and concludes that Bai is an “inquisitor among inquisitors.” Rather than protect his own prestige, Zhao apologizes over an alcohol jug, bows sincerely, and asks Bai to replace him in the official role. He then explains the profession's purpose and joins the guards' excitement as Bai proceeds to further prisoners. The corpus does not state Zhao's position or fate after Cellblock D's rise begins.
