Talking Rabbit

The Talking Rabbit is a rabbit transformed during Bai Xiaochun's animal experiments, notorious for overhearing private speech, reproducing it publicly, and escaping every attempt to catch it. (Chapters 106–897)

Biography

From Fragrant Cloud Peak to the River-Defying Sect

The rabbit gains speech after consuming the effects of Bai Xiaochun's mystery medicine and quickly turns that gift into social chaos. Its exceptionally sensitive ears collect private remarks, its voice reproduces them with names and realistic inflection, and its speed and stealth keep it beyond Bai's reach. It follows his path from Fragrant Cloud Peak to the north bank and then appears inside the Blood Stream Sect despite his Nightcrypt disguise, repeatedly threatening to expose secrets he has spoken aloud. At the River-Defying Sect it changes: instead of merely repeating phrases, it stands upright, speaks in an ancient voice, claims to have hidden from Bai, and physically kicks him through the air while announcing that it has come to test his treasures. Much later Bai senses its life-force fluctuation within the Blood Stream Division while communing with the Blood Ancestor. The connection resembles that of other medicine-transformed animals, but its meaning and the rabbit's fate after that moment remain unresolved. (Chapters 106–135, 194–202, 347, and 897)

Appearance and personality

The rabbit is white, long-eared, and red-eyed. By Chapter 347 it walks upright, clasps its forepaws behind its back in a humanlike posture, and has something ancient in its gaze despite its comical form. It is stealthy, mischievous, observant, and apparently resentful of Bai's attempts to capture or destroy it. Whether its earlier repetition was involuntary, playful, or a concealed choice is not explained. (Chapters 106, 194, and 347)

Abilities and cultivation

The rabbit initially repeats anything its sensitive ears hear, gradually expanding a repertoire of voices and secrets with striking fidelity. It moves with explosive speed, hides inside restricted areas, evades snakes and Foundation Establishment attacks, and remains faster than Bai Xiaochun even when he uses advanced movement methods. It later demonstrates independent speech, flight, and enough physical force to kick Bai through the air. Bai also senses within it fluctuations similar to the Blood Ancestor's while using Undying Blood, but the source does not establish a cultivation realm, explain that resonance, or state the full effect of the medicine that created it. Relationships

• Bai Xiaochun: Bai's medicine transforms the rabbit, but he soon regards it as his greatest nuisance because it broadcasts secrets and follows him across sects. The rabbit later confronts and kicks him while suggesting it has a purpose beyond mimicry.
• The old monkey: Another unusual animal that questions and pursues the rabbit; both are later associated with Blood-Ancestor-like life-force fluctuations, though their precise connection is unknown.
• Spirit and Blood Stream cultivators: The rabbit exposes their private speech indiscriminately, provoking repeated mass attempts to capture or kill it.
