Biography

Commercial Rivalry and a Changed Craft

Sun Yifan's reputation rests on certified soul medicine, high-level enhancement work, and service as a royal counselor. He and Sima Tao cooperate to dominate business despite their competitive pride, then find their seals attached to medicine secretly altered as part of Bai Xiaochun's counterattack. Unable to disown the marked goods, Sun faces public fury and the possibility of political ruin. Bai's ensuing flame-conjuring display does more than defeat him: as a dedicated necromancer, Sun recognizes a technique outside his existing understanding and watches with excitement even while ashamed. The experience changes the future direction of his flame study and leaves him sincerely convinced of Bai's superiority. He later remains responsive to new necromantic events in the city.
