Biography

Survival in the Wildlands Trial

Sun Wu enters the trial as a widely recognized southern chosen expected eventually to become a deva, but the environment repeatedly places that promise in perspective. He survives giant mosquitoes by hiding through a secret magic, then becomes trapped by a pack of extremely fast wolves and faces almost certain death until Bai Xiaochun's group intervenes. Grateful and cautious, Sun freely shares non-confidential information about the southern contestants and directs Bai toward other endangered cultivators. He helps save Song Que before joining Bai, Big Fatty Zhang, and Song Que on their route through the trial. When the twin Master Cloud Lightnings threaten the group, Bai invokes Sun's rescue to establish that Master Thousand-Ghost owes him a favor. The southern master accepts the obligation and escorts Sun and Bai's companions to safety. Sun's individual fate after their departure is not supplied. A mortal gang member also named Sun Wu appears in Chapters 1032–1033, but the corpus explicitly presents that man as a local mortal ruffian and provides no identity continuity with the cultivator. (Chapters 920, 927, and 936–943)

Appearance and personality

Sun Wu has green skin and the physical appearance of an evil ghost. Despite his high status, terror makes him tremble or speak with extreme care when the trial overwhelms him. He is forthcoming with allies, does not deceive Bai when questioned, and participates in Song Que's rescue. No later description of the cultivator's appearance or personality is supplied. (Chapters 920 and 927–938)

Abilities and cultivation

Sun Wu is in the great circle of the Nascent Soul stage and is regarded as his sect's leading candidate to become a deva. His one explained secret magic conceals him from the perception of human-sized mosquitoes, preventing them from draining his life. The technique does not make him broadly undetectable or invulnerable: he remains endangered by wolves and stronger trial participants. Its name, activation method, duration, cost, and later development are unknown. (Chapters 927 and 937)
