Biography

Damaged Fan and Celestial Expeditions

The Saint-Emperor assigns Sima Yunhua and Gu Tianjun to lead the first expedition into the damaged fan. Sima initially treats Bai as an inconvenient rival: he withholds help when Vile-Emperor celestials pressure him, then cooperates with Gu Tianjun in an attempt to exploit the fan's trials. Their schemes fail, and the challenges repeatedly wound or expel them. In the later sovereign-flesh expedition, however, Sima fights beside Bai against the opposing dynasty. When Virūpākṣa nearly captures him, Bai intervenes despite their history. The rescue leaves Sima genuinely moved and guilty over his earlier opposition; afterward he owes Bai a favor and welcomes Bai's later rise to archaean authority. Appearance and personality

Sima resembles a handsome young scholar and usually wears a soft, gentle smile. That friendliness can be performative: while plotting against Bai, he smiles apologetically while privately gloating. He is cautious, pragmatic, and capable of revising his loyalties when Bai risks himself to save him. (Chapters 1081, 1093–1095, and 1162–1163)

Abilities and cultivation

Sima is an established celestial who can join other experts in attacks capable of breaking major formations and contesting Vile-Emperor celestials. He uses an unspecified trump card during the sovereign-flesh escape, but the corpus gives no name or mechanics for his personal techniques. Injuries from Virūpākṣa temporarily prevent him from continuing his ambassadorial duties. (Chapters 1152–1164)

Relationships

  • Bai Xiaochun: Sima begins as a dismissive rival and conspirator, but Bai's rescue changes the relationship into one of gratitude and political support.
