Biography

Necromancer Kettle and Clan Reprisal

Miao Lin'er joins the Wildlands chosen entering the Necromancer Kettle and attacks Bai as part of the coordinated effort to prevent his escape. She uses a mental ripple while others supply direct force, but when Bai turns on her, his Undying Hex bypasses her group's confidence and lets him carry her away as a captive. Her clan later participates in the wider aristocratic struggle against Bai and attempts to exploit his identity as Bai Hao in flame-conjuring plans. After he gains imperial authority, Bai retaliates against the Miao Clan and confines Miao Lin'er in the Grand Asylum rather than releasing her. The corpus does not narrate her life there or establish what happens to her after the old dynasty falls. (Chapters 688–705 and 799–800)

Appearance and personality

Miao is a beautiful woman with a lithe frame who wears revealing clothing and readily becomes the center of attention. She is confident enough to laugh while attacking a trapped opponent, but her composure breaks when Bai turns the situation against her. Little private motivation is supplied beyond clan loyalty and hostility toward Bai. (Chapters 688 and 694)

Abilities and cultivation

Miao is a Nascent Soul chosen whose lip movement sends a ripple through the air that destabilizes the minds of those it reaches. The corpus demonstrates the effect as an attack but does not state its range, duration, resistance conditions, or whether it depends on audible sound. She is unable to stop Bai's Undying Hex at close range. (Chapters 691 and 694)
