Biography

Rank, Slander, and Rehabilitation

Marquis Zi Lin arrives at a capital gate with armed subordinates and the confidence of a direct celestial descendant. When he refuses to yield the way, Bai Xiaochun defeats him with one palm; recognition of Bai's identity then leaves Zi Lin kneeling in fear and compelled to show respect. Celestial Aged Spirit removes him from the capital and assigns him as preceptor of Godsifter Prefecture, displacing the Giant Ghost King. That reassignment makes Zi Lin the target of deliberately spread rumors accusing him of loyalty to the Vile-Emperor Dynasty. Although he is furious and frightened, he has little agency while celestials maneuver around him. Bai publicly insists upon evidence, demands a proclamation of Zi Lin's innocence, and uses the affair to force a compromise that restores the Giant Ghost King's position. The dynasty suppresses the rumors, leaving Zi Lin angry with his own ancestor but mostly respectful toward the man who had first humiliated and then politically cleared him. (Chapters 1100–1112)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not supply Zi Lin's age, face, clothing, or build. He first appears faintly smiling and composed amid men radiating murderous auras, but defeat makes him visibly shake, and the subsequent political crisis brings him close to tears. He is status-conscious and initially unyielding, yet capable of revising his judgment when Bai Xiaochun secures his rehabilitation. (Chapters 1100–1103 and 1106–1110)

Abilities and cultivation

Zi Lin is explicitly a demigod and launches an attack that requires only one palm from Bai Xiaochun to suppress. The corpus does not name or explain the attack, his cultivation method, specialties, equipment, or any later progression. His political authority derives from both his realm and descent from Celestial Aged Spirit, though that status does not protect him from celestial-level pressure. (Chapters 1100–1104 and 1108)

Relationships

• Bai Xiaochun: Zi Lin first clashes with Bai over precedence at a gate, then becomes collateral in Bai's dispute with Celestial Aged Spirit. He ends with mixed feelings but predominantly respect after Bai secures his public exoneration.
• Celestial Aged Spirit: Zi Lin's powerful ancestor and patron. Aged Spirit's reassignment exposes him to the rumor campaign, causing Zi Lin's loyalty to turn into fury.
• Giant Ghost King: Zi Lin replaces him as preceptor of Godsifter Prefecture, but the later compromise restores the Giant Ghost King; no direct personal reconciliation is depicted.
