Biography

Daoseeds, Defection, and the Profound Stream War

Lin Mu emerges as a dark horse in the Fallen Sword competition after secretly planting Dao seeds in other Pill Stream disciples and drawing enough earthstring energy to establish a foundation with eight Tideflows. Other disciples accuse him of ruining an entire generation for his own advancement. By the later sect war he has betrayed the Pill Stream Sect and become Patriarch Nine-Heavens' apprentice in the Profound Stream Sect; rumors even suggest he may always have been their spy, but the corpus does not confirm that claim. Hearing of Bai Xiaochun's victories, Lin withdraws to prepare a “huge surprise.” He confronts Bai from within a powerful violet puppet, using coordinated elemental attacks and magical treasures to compensate for weaker fleshly-body speed. When the puppet and formations fall, he tries to teleport away, sacrifices an arm through self-detonation to stop Bai's grasp, and initially believes he has escaped. Bai calls upon the grand lich, which reaches through the teleportation light, tears out Lin's heart, and leaves it to turn to ash. (Chapters 173, 187, 290, and 303–305)

Appearance and personality

Lin Mu is a young man; during his final fight his hair becomes completely disheveled, but the source supplies no stable facial features, clothing, or build. His secret Daoseed cultivation and betrayal establish ruthlessness and ambition, while the battle shows confidence in preparation, murderous resolve, and a willingness to destroy his own arm for escape. (Chapters 173–187 and 290–305)

Abilities and cultivation

Lin masters the Pill Stream Sect's Primeval Medicinal Daoseed Incantation, planting Dao seeds in other disciples and using the resulting advantage to reach eight-Tideflow Earthstring Foundation Establishment. The full extraction mechanics and long-term effect on victims are not explained. In war he controls a violet puppet capable of forming a 300-meter Yang-Sun Art attack and launching a frigid moon, while also deploying a pill furnace, defensive bucklers, command medallion, teleportation slip, and a self-detonating hand. These preparations threaten Bai at range, but fail once Bai closes into fleshly combat and brings the grand lich into the exchange. (Chapters 173, 303–305)

Relationships

  • Bai Xiaochun: Lin prepares specifically to kill Bai and briefly matches him through puppet arts and layered defenses. Bai defeats those preparations and has the grand lich destroy Lin's heart during his escape.
  • Patriarch Nine-Heavens: Lin's master after his defection to the Profound Stream Sect; the corpus does not detail their personal instruction or reaction to Lin's death.
  • Pill Stream Sect disciples: Lin secretly uses them as hosts for Dao seeds, an act blamed for ruining their generation and central to his reputation as a traitor.
