Hou Yunfei is Hou Xiaomei's elder brother and one of Bai Xiaochun's oldest sect friends. His gentle manner coexists with a willingness to fight through lethal trials and wars for his sect. (Chapters 14, 51–60, 140–173, 269, and 864–865)

Biography

Friend, Chosen, and defender

Hou first thanks Bai for looking after Xiaomei and makes himself available as a senior disciple. In the Luochen crisis he joins the pursuit and shares the sect's danger. Although not counted among the most spectacular Fallen Sword Chosen, he kills more than ten enemies, obtains enough earthstring energy to reach Earthstring Foundation Establishment, and helps hold off rival disciples attacking Bai. A prime elder later accepts him as an apprentice, but Hou remains more defined by loyalty than status, joining the agreement to kill Nightcrypt because he believes the Blood Stream cultivator threatens his friends. Hou later works on the River-Defying Sect's Magic Pavilion and repeatedly appears to see Bai off. During the three-sect assault, he is a Core Formation cultivator inside the Spirit Stream formation. Seeing Bai return gives him hope, but the presence of three enemy devas still leaves him fearful for his friend and sect. He is alive when last shown; no later cultivation or fate is supplied. (Chapters 344, 361, 378, and 864–865)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not provide a stable detailed physical description. Hou is consistently warm, courteous, protective of Xiaomei, and loyal to friends, while battlefield scenes show endurance and a capacity for lethal resolve. (Chapters 14, 153, and 269)

Abilities and cultivation

Hou advances from Spirit Stream disciple to Earthstring Foundation Establishment and is later identified among Core Formation defenders. His individual magical techniques are not named; his clearest demonstrated strengths are persistence in combat and coordinated defense. (Chapters 153–173 and 865)
