Chen Xiong

Chen Xiong is a direct descendant of Heavenly Duke Chen whose elaborate attempt to defeat Bai Xiaochun through a spirit-enhancement wager ends in public ruin and a later reversal of his attitude. (Chapters 725–794)

Biography

A Failed Wager and Universal Grace

Chen Xiong confronts Bai Xiaochun's “Bai Hao” identity with a plan built in several stages and enough confidence to continue raising the stakes even after the watching crowd makes him hesitate. The contest turns disastrous when Bai demonstrates a fifteenfold spirit enhancement and exposes the enormous value of the wager. Chen's Dao protectors cannot stop Bai, who beats him and drains him until he is emaciated; Mistress Red-Dust eventually removes him from the scene. The humiliation becomes famous throughout Arch-Emperor City, and some other chosen even distance themselves from Chen rather than risk Bai's attention. By the time the Proclamation of Universal Grace reaches his clan, Chen has no prospect of becoming successor and reassesses the old hatred: equal division of the clan's reserves would give even him wealth sufficient for life. He therefore joins the direct-bloodline relatives who support enforcement against an opposing elder, converting a personal defeat into acceptance of the reform's benefit. (Chapters 725–731 and 794)

Appearance and personality

Chen Xiong is introduced as a young man in pink robes; the corpus does not supply his build, facial features, or later appearance beyond the severe emaciation caused by Bai Xiaochun's attack. He is calculating and initially self-assured, but pressure exposes hesitation. His later support for universal grace is practical and self-interested rather than presented as an ideological conversion. (Chapters 725–729 and 794)

Abilities and cultivation

Chen relies on two Dao protectors and an aristocratic plan rather than displaying a named personal combat art. He possesses a jade pendant bearing a fifteenfold spirit enhancement, but the item is not shown to be his own work, and it remains in his bag after his defeat. His exact cultivation realm, techniques, and subsequent development are not supplied. (Chapters 725–729)

Relationships

• Bai Xiaochun: Chen tries to trap him in an escalating wager, suffers a crushing defeat, and initially hates him. Universal grace later changes that judgment because Bai's policy gives non-successor descendants such as Chen access to clan reserves.
• Heavenly Duke Chen: Chen belongs to the duke's direct bloodline, but the corpus states that he has no hope of inheriting the clan.
• Mistress Red-Dust: She intervenes after Chen's defeat and carries him and his two Dao protectors away; no continuing personal bond is described.
