Chen Fei

Chen Fei is an early Spirit Stream Sect rival of Bai Xiaochun whose repeated defeats evolve into wary understanding and eventual fellowship. (Chapters 12–14, 181–182, and 267–283)

Biography

From Supervisor Rival to Believing Peer

Chen Fei first confronts the Ovens crew on behalf of the Supervisors Department and is beaten after Bai helps the servants seize entry into the outer sect. The humiliation makes him eager to see Bai punished, but later encounters reverse the balance so completely that Chen survives by flattering the now-prominent Sect Uncle Bai with remarkable accuracy. By Bai's return from the Blood Stream Sect, Chen's view is more complicated than fear. He tells his companions that people may love and hate Bai, yet still believe in him because his achievements eclipse everyone around him. Chen then joins Bai's friends at a reunion and enters the River-Defying war contingent, ending as part of the community he once opposed. (Chapters 12–14, 181–182, and 267–283)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no detailed physical description beyond his association with two burly companions. Chen begins combative, resentful, and pleased by Bai's misfortune. He is also quick-thinking and socially perceptive: his flattery protects him, while his later assessment of Bai shows sincere insight rather than simple submission. (Chapters 12–14 and 181–267)

Abilities and cultivation

Chen is a cultivator capable of serving in the Supervisors Department and later joining a large River-Defying formation. The corpus does not state his realm, name a technique, or isolate a later combat feat. His clearest demonstrated skill is improvisational speech under pressure, which is social rather than a cultivation ability. (Chapters 12–14, 181–182, and 274–283)
