At their introduction, Duan Tianren had done to Han Li, so to everyone else, it appeared that Han Li had suddenly gotten angry even though Duan Tianren was clearly extending a gesture of kindness. This establishes the immediate pressure under which they act and the people or institution to which they must respond. Later, Duan Tianren had plotted for tens of thousands of years to secure these pills, so they naturally had to be extremely valuable, changing or clarifying their position in the conflict.
