Bathory

Bathory is the head of the ancient House Bathory, a vampire queen whose pursuit of the portal project makes her one of Kim Sae-Jin's most dangerous enemies. Their failed attempts to dominate one another expose the Vampire Lord's deception and gradually turn hostility into conditional cooperation, leaving Bathory as both a defender of Earth and the public representative of its surviving Vampires.

Biography

Red Moon and unstable evolution

Bathory begins as the last descendant and leader of the house regarded as the progenitor of the Vampire race, a likely successor to the aging Vampire Lord. From her fortified hotel headquarters, she presses forward with a portal intended to return the Vampires to their homeworld, but she does not rely only on force. Hostile to the Nosferatus and wary of attacking their sanctuary directly, she orders an intermediary to feed its location to the mercenary Lycan, hoping that human-aligned enemies will destroy one another and clear away opposition to her project. The scheme shows both her impatience and her instinct for indirect leverage. (Chapter 73)

That pressure produces the opposite result. The Nosferatus had anticipated her maneuver and wanted humans to disrupt the return plan; during the Red Moon, the portal is destroyed and the artificial heart, a crucial medium for opening it, is lost. Bathory's House conceals the failure from the still-hibernating Lord and traces the heart to The Monster, but repeated action through Apostles and constructed servants fails to recover it. Her faction is left exposed, deprived of its key instrument, and increasingly short of time rather than restored to control. (Chapters 81, 83, and 93)

When the Lord awakens and the succession question becomes urgent, Bathory is forced into cooperation with the rival el Las house. She resents its young leader's claim to equal standing and privately considers killing him once his assistance is no longer necessary, yet she accepts the alliance because her own servants cannot reconnect the Dead Fissures without the heart. This compromise preserves her ambition to lead the Vampires while making her dependence on the Lord's timetable, a rival house, and unreliable subordinates impossible to ignore. (Chapter 93)

Nosferatu alliance and the Bathory conflict

The Nosferatus eventually offer Sae-Jin the power and information needed to kill Bathory, while Sae-Jin exploits her intense desire to possess his Leviathan form. His agent Rhosrahdel encourages her to attempt the capture during winter and gains a place close to her by providing privileged information about the Azure Dragon. Bathory recognizes that extravagant flattery can signal treachery, but her curiosity and possessiveness outweigh the warning. She accepts the proposed timing, unknowingly allowing Rhosrahdel to turn her private obsession into the opening for a coordinated ambush. (Chapters 125 and 137)

The trap proves that neither side can win cleanly. Bathory survives a barrage of spells, blades, and Sae-Jin's Mana cannon by repeatedly regenerating—even from a severed finger—but the attacks consume several of her remaining lives. Rather than stay within range of another cannon strike, she tears through the weakened barrier and uses instant transmission to abduct Sae-Jin. He answers by linking their pain, making lethal damage to him rebound upon her. Their resulting battle becomes an exhausting stalemate: Bathory refuses to release a captive she wants to break and own, while Sae-Jin keeps injuring her so she cannot fully recover or safely kill him. Forced into prolonged proximity, Bathory reveals how her blood, body, and inherited sorcery work, while Sae-Jin absorbs some of that knowledge from her blood. Her interest shifts from treating him as disposable prey to offering him survival as an eternal servant, yet he uses their conversations to test the return plan's central contradiction. If time and dimensions cannot both be crossed at precisely the same instant, the Lord may be sending the other Vampires to their ruined homeworld while escaping elsewhere alone. Bathory responds with violence, but her restlessness shows that the accusation has reached a suspicion she can no longer suppress. (Chapters 141, 143, and 145)

When Sae-Jin's allies breach the space, Hazeline activates the artificial heart and suppresses Bathory's Mana long enough for a massed attack. Bathory remains physically capable of overpowering Knights without sorcery, and Sae-Jin ultimately evacuates the group rather than risk their deaths. The raid therefore denies both sides a decisive victory, but it changes Bathory's priorities. Instead of blindly pursuing the escapees, she resolves to confront the Lord, then takes her followers into the abandoned Nosferatu sanctuary and demands that they choose between his authority and hers. Sae-Jin's challenge has turned private doubt into open rebellion. (Chapters 145 and 147)

Exhibition, Fissure war, and aftermath

Bathory next appropriates the identity of the Elf Wizard Emil Rerheu and enters The Monster's Exhibition. The disguise lets her approach Sae-Jin while testing the human institution from within, and she proposes a tactical alliance to kill the Vampire Lord before he can betray her faction. Her motive remains self-interested—she initially imagines removing Sae-Jin after the Lord and taking control of the Fissure—but accepting the Guild arrangement gives both parties a shared enemy. She wins admission to The Monster under Emil's name and maintains the pact even after Rhosrahdel deliberately embarrasses her during her acceptance speech. (Chapters 150–152)

Her support for the Lord operation is concrete even though she does not accompany Sae-Jin through every chamber. Bathory calls away the Lord's retainers, provides a silver knife refined under the stronger sunlight of her homeworld, explains that a cut from it will prevent the aged Lord from regenerating, and warns that he is a master of Chimera engineering. After his death, deciphering connected to the ancient tome establishes that simultaneous travel through time and dimensions is impossible; Bathory consequently concludes that the Lord had intended to escape alone into another dimension. She grieves despite condemning him as a coward, then honors her agreement not to force the Korean Fissure wider, buying humanity roughly a year to prepare. (Chapters 153–157)

The final crisis forces Bathory beyond this alliance of convenience. An el Las attempt to widen the Fissure draws her toward memories of the homeworld she fled: she had expected humans to deny Vampires passage, yet human Knights and Wizards sacrificed themselves to protect the refugees. When the opening again tempts her with a return, Sae-Jin pulls her away. Bathory later admits that even she fears the endless invaders and cannot close a completed portal, but she chooses to remain on Earth because the world ravaged by those creatures is no longer the home she remembers. She accepts a role in Sae-Jin's plan and fights the emerging Monster tide while he enters the portal to destroy its origin. (Chapters 163–164 and 167–168)

After the Fissure war, Bathory does not lose her predatory independence, but she stays within the community she once meant to conquer. A year later she attends The Monster's gathering, works with Rhosrahdel as her retainer and image manager, and has become the public leader or representative of the united Vampires. She first alternates between Emil and her own identity, then appears openly as Bathory after a public makeover recasts her as a figure of peace and reconciliation. When Sae-Jin remains missing, she eventually uses a captured Mah-in's ability to confirm his Mana signature beyond the dimension, bringing information back to the same Guild circle that had once hunted her. Appearance and personality

Bathory is described as flawlessly beautiful, with red hair, pale smooth skin, and an appearance she can use with deliberate sensuality or intimidation. She favors revealing red dresses and high heels. Her face can carry an innocent, childlike smile immediately before violence, while her voice and gaze exert enough pressure that subordinates instinctively grovel. Under the Emil Rerheu identity, transformation magic lets her adopt the body and face of an Elf so completely that she initially evades even Sae-Jin's enhanced senses. She is imperious, impatient, and easily enraged by disrespect, failure, boredom, or damage to her appearance. She openly enjoys domination and has a history of destruction and torture, yet she is not simply reckless: she spots hollow praise, uses proxies, preserves a finite reserve of lives, and retreats when renewed combat would be strategically unsound. Her scholarship is poor and she repeatedly misuses learned idioms, but quick perception and suspicion let her recognize political danger that better-read subordinates miss. Bathory's strongest recurring vulnerability is her possessive affection for Monsters. She wants Sae-Jin's Leviathan as a pet, names him Yong-Yong, and is fascinated by creatures that she regards as more appealing than people. That appetite repeatedly overrides her caution, but it also becomes a route toward attachment: captivity introduces her to ordinary games and food, while the later bird Monster she adopts responds readily to her Mana. Beneath her cruelty are fear of the devastation that destroyed her homeworld, genuine grief for the Lord who betrayed her, and a capacity to honor agreements when survival gives former enemies a shared interest. Traits and abilities

Bathory's power comes principally from the exceptional bloodline of House Bathory rather than a named personal Trait. An intelligence briefing attributes her abnormal development to a hereditary Bathory Trait that converts the lives of fellow Vampires into greater power, making the mass vampire deaths of the earlier racial war part of the origin of her present strength; the precise conversion and whether it can still progress are not explained. Bathory herself states that Vampires pass strength through blood and that her lineage grants both an unusually durable body and access to many forms of sorcery lost to modern Wizards. After ordinary Traits vanish, her latest appearance still establishes her magical knowledge and active leadership, but it does not test whether the hereditary Trait or her former combat sorcery remains operational. Blood-Mana body and regeneration

Vampires use blood and Mana together; in Bathory's case, she states that her blood is itself Mana. She can condense red energy in her palm into a piercing spike and transform her entire body into dense red Mana fog before reconstructing herself elsewhere nearby. This fluid state demonstrates that her blood, flesh, and sorcery are unusually integrated, but the source does not specify its activation cost, maximum duration, or whether she can attack while fully dispersed. Her regeneration is strong enough to rebuild a complete body from a single surviving finger. During the ocean ambush she is apparently killed several times by concentrated attacks and the Mana cannon, then restores herself until only one life remains available for further recovery. Expelling dead blood and replacing it with fresh blood is also part of recovering from severe damage after instant transmission. These feats establish extraordinary survivability, not unrestricted immortality: repeated deaths consume a finite reserve, and she avoids another cannon strike because one further fatal loss may be final. Physical force, speed, and endurance

Bathory claims that her bloodline makes her flesh and bones several dozen times stronger than those of even powerful Soo-in warriors. Her actions support the broader point, though not the exact multiplier. She can shatter Sae-Jin's bones and internal organs with casual blows, withstand long exchanges of mutually shared pain, block a divine White Tiger's strike, and keep fighting multiple high-ranked attackers after Hazeline suppresses her Mana. Her close-combat style favors overwhelming punches, kicks, grapples, and sudden acceleration rather than a named martial discipline. (Chapters 139–145)

Her speed can exceed sound and cover more than a kilometer in roughly a second, making ordinary retreat from her impractical. That speed, combined with regeneration, lets her cross a prepared kill zone, seize the Leviathan, and escape after suffering massive damage. It is still not absolute: coordinated attacks force her to spend lives, Mana suppression narrows her options, and Sae-Jin's instant transmission can remove targets before she can stop the spell. Spatial sorcery, barriers, and disguise

Bathory's instant transmission breaks a target down and reconstructs it at the destination without a chant or visible magic circle. She can carry another being with her, move Sae-Jin from her isolated space into central Seoul, and use the technique during emergencies. The experience is physically unpleasant, and using it immediately after the ocean battle leaves her vomiting blood, indicating that severe prior injury or exertion can make the transition costly even if the exact Mana requirement and range are unknown. (Chapters 139–140 and 157)

She can create isolation barriers that separate an area from the outside world, alter their interior, and expand or furnish the enclosed space according to her condition or intent. She also raises a dark Mana dome spanning roughly five hundred meters to prevent followers from escaping while she demands their allegiance. Strong attacks and specialized weapons can fracture these barriers, however, and maintaining control does not prevent an enemy already inside from injuring her. (Chapters 140–147)

Her transformation magic can change her face and outer body into the Elf Emil Rerheu, concealing her identity well enough to participate in a public Wizard competition and initially fool Sae-Jin's sensory abilities. As Emil she demonstrates destructive magic at the level publicly graded A-class. This disguise is not an independent body: when she ends it before Sae-Jin, the Elf exterior melts away to reveal Bathory, and her own Mana and temperament remain underneath. (Chapters 150–152)

Offensive, seductive, and Monster-control magic

Bathory's demonstrated offensive magic includes blood-red spikes, whip-like attacks, concentrated flame bullets, wide destructive spells, and fire capable of burning away the substance and creatures emerging from a Fissure. She can also dissolve incoming dark Mana Spears before they touch her. The corpus presents these as applications of her inherited sorcery and red Mana, but does not give most of them names, casting formulas, fixed ranges, or cooldowns. Her Mana carries powerful seduction. It can pressure or charm people, contributes to Emil's public magnetism, and can guide a bird-like Monster down to her arm by giving it a Mana trail to follow. Sae-Jin's Most Pure Divine Body resists and partially reflects her high-grade seduction, establishing that strong purification or resistance can counter it. Her earlier plans to tame the Leviathan are never fulfilled, so her belief that enough violence and brainwashing would secure him remains an intention rather than a demonstrated limit of Monster control. The artificial heart is her clearest operational counter. When Hazeline activates its stored suppression spell using a reserve of Monster Mana Stones, Bathory loses access to Mana and cannot use these sorceries until the effect weakens. Her physical body remains dangerous enough to fight through the suppression, and the device eventually exhausts its operator and fuel, so it creates a temporary opening rather than permanently depowering her. • Kim Sae-Jin: Bathory first sees Sae-Jin's Leviathan as a creature to capture and corrupt. Their ambush, pain-linked captivity, and repeated attempts to exploit one another create a mixture of hatred, fascination, and reluctant respect. Sae-Jin exposes the Lord's likely betrayal and later saves her from entering the Fissure; Bathory in turn supplies the Lord's weakness, agrees to remain on Earth, and fights the invaders while Sae-Jin closes the portal.
• Hazeline: Hazeline is the magical fulcrum of the Guild's attempted execution of Bathory, using the artificial heart to suppress her Mana. Bathory still nearly overwhelms the rescue party through physical force. They later occupy the same Guild circle after the alliance changes, but the corpus does not establish that their original hostility becomes friendship.
• Rhosrahdel: Rhosrahdel infiltrates Bathory's guard for Sae-Jin and feeds her the bait that makes the Azure Dragon ambush possible. After Bathory rebels against the Lord, he remains attached to her faction, endures punishment for deliberately embarrassing her, and eventually becomes her public-image adviser and retainer as she represents the united Vampires.
