Tang Chen
Tang Chen is the patriarch whose peaceful administration makes the Tang Family respected across its lands. His treatment of Xiao Yun Hai reveals a more domineering political instinct: he recognizes the grandmaster's value, keeps him under guarded hospitality, and tries to turn that talent into lasting strength for the family.
Biography
Great Peace City and Mo Cloud Sea
Tang Chen rules several jie from Bu Zhou City, where the Tang Family emphasizes orderly development rather than open conquest. When Xiao Yun Hai forges the Sky Snake Ten Manifestation Pike, Tang Chen immediately recognizes an earth mo weapon's presence and personally blocks the grandmaster's departure beneath elaborate courtesy. He places the trio in a guarded compound and hopes to make Xiao Yun Hai a teacher for the family Mo Weapon Camp, while ordering full support for further forging. The plan becomes less secure as the grandmaster produces more extraordinary work and earns independent prestige; Tang Chen regrets having used coercion but renews his focus on shen power. By the time Rare Artifacts Hall distributes the new weapons, public standing prevents Tang Chen from openly detaining Xiao Yun Hai again, and Zuo Mo remains wary without fearing him. (Chapters 692, 695, 697–700, 704–705, 709–710, 712–713, and 716)
Shen-Power Ruins and the Great-Sect War
Tang Chen joins Marshal Di, Qin Ming, and Zhong Wen Tian as shen-power factions converge around Bu Zhou City. He accepts Marshal Di's timing-based strategy and helps watch Xiao Mo Ge at the Grave Ghost Mound, though he admits that an earlier personal exploration nearly killed him when dense yin energy began to boil and react to mo skills. Faced with powers beyond ordinary marshal combat, he focuses on acquiring shen power rather than forcing an immediate clash. The corpus leaves him alive outside the mound, with no later account of his individual fate. (Chapters 724 and 730)
Appearance and personality
Tang Chen is tall and broad, with long, narrow, bright eyes. His voice is deep and pleasant, and he can present a warm smile and impeccable hospitality even while positioning himself so that a guest cannot leave. (Chapters 695 and 697)
He is detail-minded, cautious, authoritative, and politically calculating. He values development and talent, but his courtesy can conceal coercion, and he is willing to use a grandmaster as bait for a larger strategic goal. He can also reconsider: Xiao Yun Hai's achievements make him regret his original choice before he consciously restores his resolve. (Chapters 692, 697, 713, and 730)
Abilities and cultivation
Tang Chen is a mo marshal and the wielder of the Fire Rain Meteor Hammer. His most famous battle was a victory over the marshal Ma Yuan Qi, a result that established Tang Chen's reputation and contributed to the Ma Family's decline. Earth mo weapons are particularly suited to marshal power, and this feat is the corpus's clearest measure of his direct combat ability. (Chapter 695)
He is not described as the strongest marshal, and no complete present-day duel shows his full technique. With Marshal Di's group he estimates their four marshals and four earth mo weapons as roughly equivalent to two mo gods, illustrating both their collective force and their individual gap from mature shen-power experts. His near-fatal Grave Ghost Mound expedition also shows that hostile terrain can prevent him from safely using mo skills. (Chapters 716, 724, and 730)
Relationships
- Marshal Di: Tang Chen and Marshal Di have a close, long-concealed relationship, and their families move toward alliance. Tang Chen hosts Di's son as a nephew and later follows Marshal Di's strategic lead. (Chapters 698–700, 706, 710, and 724)
- Qin Ming and Zhong Wen Tian: Tang Chen met and fought beside both men in youth. Their reunion restores the old group around Marshal Di, and they speak with the familiarity of longstanding comrades. (Chapters 710 and 730)
- Zuo Mo / Xiao Yun Hai: Tang Chen wants the grandmaster's forging knowledge and initially keeps him under house arrest. Xiao Yun Hai's rapid rise limits that coercion, while his identity as Xiao Mo Ge later makes him the focus of Tang Chen's shen-power calculations. (Chapters 697, 713, 716, and 724)
- Tang Family: He is the family's patriarch, principal expert, and unquestioned authority in Bu Zhou City. His decisions combine the family's development-focused tradition with preparation for wider conflict. (Chapters 692, 695, and 709)
Items
- Fire Rain Meteor Hammer: The Tang Family's earth mo weapon is ranked forty-first and belongs to Tang Chen as patriarch. He used it in his famous victory over Ma Yuan Qi. (Chapter 695)
- Sky Snake Ten Manifestation Pike: Tang Chen tries to buy this newly forged earth mo weapon, but it has already been exchanged through Rare Artifacts Hall and is not established as his possession. (Chapters 695 and 697)
- Tang Family compound and Mo Weapon Camp: These support Tang Chen's guarded hospitality and talent-development plans, but they are family infrastructure rather than his personal items. (Chapter 697)
