Ning Yi was a battle-hungry Cloud Sea Jie expert infamous for killing or maiming his opponents. The Tian family's allies first offered him a large jingshi payment to challenge Turtle Island's sword xiu, but he rejected the sum as insulting until Li Shu privately offered a Bagua Energy Mirror and asked him to test the mysterious faction. (Chapters 460–464)

Turtle Island attempted to ambush Ning Yi on his route to Xu Ling City, but Gu Ming Gong predicted the attack and joined Ning with Yuan Xin in disguise. Once the Five Element Fog Shield separated the attackers, Ning produced the Blood Fiend Asura Umbrella and targeted Wei Sheng, hoping to capture his unusually powerful soul and refine it into an asura. (Chapters 465–467)

Ning Yi's superior cultivation, experience, and corrupt blood light suppressed Wei Sheng's sword essence at every exchange. Rather than kill him quickly, Ning deliberately pushed Wei to his limit so the captured soul would be stronger, but this delay awakened the black sword and allowed a counterstroke to cut the blood light and break one of the umbrella's irreplaceable ribs. (Chapters 467–469)

Faced with a weapon he could not identify and a second possible strike, Ning Yi abandoned revenge in the moment and escaped as blood light. He vowed to return, yet subsequent reports list him and Gu Ming Gong only as disappeared; later characters remember his power and Li Shu's dealings with him, without supplying a confirmed death or return. (Chapters 469–503)

Appearance and personality

Ning Yi has long, narrow eyes and an initially cold, disdainful manner. He is fickle, murderous, proud, and openly greedy for powerful souls, but not mindlessly reckless: he questions Li Shu's motives, coordinates with capable allies, recognizes the danger of Wei Sheng's awakened sword, and retreats rather than lose his life and damaged treasure.

Abilities and cultivation

Ning Yi is a peak third-stratum jindan whose cultivation and battle experience greatly exceed Wei Sheng's at their encounter. The Blood Fiend Asura Umbrella releases blood light that corrodes talismans, flying swords, and even void sword essence, and can refine captured powerful souls into asuras. Its power depends on thirteen specially prepared yin-ling-whale ribs; breaking one sharply reduces the umbrella, and Ning lacks a replacement. The umbrella's accumulated blood fiend also threatens his own mind without a calming countermeasure.

Relationships

  • Li Shu: The hidden Tian Huan figure whose reward persuades Ning to test and attack Turtle Island.
  • Gu Ming Gong: An allied formation expert who predicts the ambush and separates the opponents with the Five Element Fog Shield.
