Jiang Wei leads a small independent group in Little Mountain Jie. Watching Gongsun Cha's force defeat Moustache Wang, he correctly realizes that the strange army is testing tactics rather than fighting at full strength, then sees an opportunity to seize the apparently empty Golden Crow City. He sends his best concealed scout, gathers his people in secrecy, and withholds the plan even from his younger brother until the group is close to acting. When the city's defenses and hard lightning prove far stronger than expected, Jiang Wei recognizes the failure and orders his scouts back. (Chapters 257–259)
