He Xiang is the hired chief elder of Clear Sky Sect's Outer Hall in Little Mountain Jie. He rises by understanding the desperate local market and helps rebuild Nan Sheng Village as a center for Clear Sky Sect's grain monopoly, slave trade, and factional negotiations. His authority depends entirely on satisfying Clear Sky Old Forefather, and repeated failures against Gongsun Cha's forces turn his ambition into fear, concealment, and ultimately a coerced final attack.

Biography

Little Mountain Jie and Golden Crow City

Having survived Little Mountain Jie's collapse, He Xiang applies as soon as Clear Sky Sect recruits for its Outer Hall. His knowledge of what local cultivators need earns the Old Forefather's approval and appointment as chief elder. He reconstructs Nan Sheng Village, sells ling grain through controlled access, and negotiates large transactions with local factions, expecting the resulting leverage to secure his office. The position reverses his former social standing, but it also attracts rival elders and makes every price concession or security failure a test of whether he remains useful. (Chapters 241, 244–245)

Raids by Zuo Mo's people expose Nan Sheng Village's weak defenses and repeatedly destroy Outer Hall detachments. He Xiang uses threats of execution, deadlines, and the Old Forefather's temper to force his subordinates and rival elders into cooperation, while trying to preserve an outward appearance of calm. Even three thousand recruits cannot solve the problem: Gongsun Cha's distributed forces destroy search parties, raid Nan Sheng Village, free its slaves, and force He Xiang to escape through an underground transportation formation. He then hides the scale of the defeat while the Old Forefather remains in seclusion, because disclosure would destroy him and the other elders. (Chapters 246–264)

The concealment ends after Huang Zhuo Guang's death. Hong Jun Xuan removes He Xiang from command, accuses him of failing to report the disaster, and offers only one route to survival: lead a thousand Outer Hall cultivators against the Guard Camp outside Golden Crow City. He Xiang accepts because Clear Sky Sect has surrounded the elders and nowhere else in Little Mountain Jie will shelter him. When ordinary sword attacks disappear into the Crow Fiend Mo Killing Formation, he orders a closer approach, hoping the formation cannot stop flying cultivators. The Guard Camp's Little Mo Kill traps the force in black energy, and Shu Long kills He Xiang with one blow through the chest. (Chapters 291–293)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not establish He Xiang's age, clothing, build, or stable facial features. It instead records his expressions under pressure: he maintains warm smiles during negotiations, becomes dark or vicious in private, appears bloodshot and contorted when losses mount, and finally turns ash-grey when forced into the attack on Golden Crow City. He is ambitious, diligent, politically alert, and skilled at exploiting scarcity. He also places status and self-preservation above subordinates, treats lost patrols and slaves mainly as replaceable costs, and weaponizes Clear Sky Sect's threat of execution to maintain control. His composure is performative rather than durable. Each setback makes him more coercive, while fear of the Old Forefather leads him to conceal failures instead of correcting the structural weakness that caused them. Abilities and cultivation

He Xiang's documented abilities are administrative and political. He understands Little Mountain Jie's famine economy, helps design Clear Sky Sect's Outer Hall operations, rebuilds Nan Sheng Village, negotiates faction contracts, uses grain access to pressure customers, and unites mutually hostile elders by reminding them of their shared danger. These methods can produce rapid compliance and large-scale recruitment, but they depend on Clear Sky Sect's reputation and Old Forefather's power rather than He Xiang's independent force. (Chapters 241, 244–245, 252, 254, and 257)

His personal cultivation realm, scripture, flying sword, and techniques are not named. He can fly with the Outer Hall force and takes part in its collective sword-energy attack, but he shows no individual technique before Shu Long kills him. His command limitations are more explicit: he underestimates coordinated troops, sends small detachments that are defeated in detail, leaves Nan Sheng Village poorly defended, and mistakes numbers for organization. At Golden Crow City he correctly seeks another approach after ranged attacks fail, but lacks the information to recognize that closing distance enables the Guard Camp's killing formation.   • Clear Sky Old Forefather: The Old Forefather appoints He Xiang because of his local knowledge and suggestions, giving him authority over the Outer Hall.   • The Outer Hall elders: He Xiang is chief among seven elders but faces factional rivals, especially the Second Elder. He alternates between threatening them and appealing to shared danger. No personal weapon, armor, talisman, or named carried item is documented for He Xiang. As chief elder he uses Outer Hall infrastructure, including Nan Sheng Village, slave-transport boats, grain-access jade disks, and a secret underground transportation formation. These are institutional resources under his administration, not objects established as his personal property; the transportation formation enables his escape when Nan Sheng Village falls.
