Elder Shen
Biography
Documented arc
Elder Shen arrived in Cloud Sea Jie with Li Shu under a canopy of fire and identified Lu Zhen and Huang Jie as Tian Huan operatives. Rather than punishing them for their failures, he judged that their long mission had earned enough merit for them to return to the sect, establishing both his senior authority and Xu Ling Sect's concealed connection to Tian Huan. (Chapters 483–493)
At the Sun Shen Temple, Elder Shen drew on extensive knowledge of the ancient Sun Tribe, golden crow souls, and sacrificial customs, but repeatedly underestimated how much of the temple's original power remained. He subdued the Zhu Gui guardian only after repeated dispersals and the aid of an unnamed sect treasure, then rushed onward without recovering because he feared another party would seize the inheritance first. (Chapters 494–501)
Elder Shen cornered Zuo Mo and tried to exchange his life for the temple treasures, especially the Sun Crystal Seed. When local yuanying experts intervened, he revealed Tian Huan's backing and prepared a hidden formation using Dark Void Fire; the formation immobilized the surrounding jindan and killed two of them before the temple's Golden Crow Restraint Lights rendered him unconscious. (Chapters 502–506)
While Elder Shen lay helpless, Zuo Mo removed his ling armor, space ring, talismans, clothing, and even his undergarments. Shen later awoke naked in the burning ruins before the watching cultivators, and the humiliation made him spit blood and collapse. Tian Huan subsequently sent him to the front lines rather than recording his death. (Chapters 506–507, 524)
Appearance and personality
Elder Shen is an old man in red robes with a rosy complexion, a mole on his forehead, and a sharp, fiery gaze. He is knowledgeable and decisive, but also proud, dismissive of lesser powers, greedy for rare inheritances, and prone to pressing forward before he has recovered.
Abilities and cultivation
As a yuanying seal xiu, Elder Shen can arrive amid sky-covering flames and overpower the temple's Zhu Gui guardian with an unnamed sect treasure. His signature Dark Void Fire is transparent and colorless, lies outside the five elements, and is assembled from three hundred tiny, layered seal scripts; deployed through a prepared formation, it can bind jindan cultivators and burn targets to death. Its large-scale use requires concealed preparation, and neither it nor his cultivation protected him from the Sun Shen Temple's own restraint lights.
