Dong Zi is the most talented youth studying under Uncle An Ya in Shattered Stone Town, with solid fundamentals and skill above his peers. He and the other youths befriend the paralyzed Zuo Mo, whom they know as A Zuo, and include him in town life. Dong Zi's kindness is especially clear when he explains Zuo Mo and A Gui's disabilities to the visiting matrix awakening master. (Chapters 538–541)

Zuo Mo discovers remnants of an Alpine Gorilla matrix in Dong Zi and proposes repairing it rather than merely awakening what remains. Even after being told that the experimental procedure has only a three-in-ten chance and could kill him, Dong Zi chooses to proceed because he wants enough strength to keep his family and town from being bullied. His parents support that dangerous choice. (Chapter 544)

Ka Zhuo engraves the reconstructed matrix after preparing Dong Zi in a medicinal pool, while Zuo Mo directs the design. Dong Zi endures violent pain as the matrix activates and then falls into a deep sleep. On waking, he does not realize the procedure is complete, but his first test of Shattered Stone Strike cuts a straight gulley almost twenty zhang long and establishes captain-level power. Dong Zi eagerly accepts Zuo Mo's demanding cultivation plan and promises to protect both Zuo Mo and A Gui until their people arrive. Zuo Mo later considers taking him away, but decides that the honest youth should remain in Shattered Stone Town rather than be exposed to the dangers surrounding his journey. (Chapters 546, 560)

Appearance and personality

No detailed physical description is given. Dong Zi is an honest, kind, and innocent youth who can be socially awkward under attention, yet becomes stern and focused as soon as he assumes a combat posture. His lack of distracting thoughts helps him learn Uncle An Ya's practical striking method faithfully. (Chapters 540–546)

Abilities and cultivation

Dong Zi carries Alpine Gorilla blood. The repaired Alpine Gorilla matrix greatly refines his physical potential, and his Shattered Stone Strike produces layered red blade energy through hundreds of rapid vibrations in his palm. Immediately after the procedure, the strike reaches captain level. (Chapters 544–546)

That increase is not the same as completing his growth. His body and matrix have not yet fully merged, he has not formed a mo physique, and the colonel level associated with the complete matrix remains a future possibility dependent on continued tempering and cultivation. (Chapter 546)

Relationships

Uncle An Ya is Dong Zi's teacher and the creator of Shattered Stone Strike. Zuo Mo becomes his benefactor and cultivation guide, while A Gui is another vulnerable friend he promises to protect. Ka Zhuo performs the dangerous matrix work under Zuo Mo's direction, and Dong Zi's parents knowingly support their son's decision. (Chapters 538–546)
