Chun Yu Cheng

Chun Yu Cheng is an animal-husbandry specialist whose work turns rare beasts from personal curiosities into strategic resources for Zuo Mo's faction. He has little interest in fighting, but his obsessive experimentation with beast pools, hybrid breeding, cloud steeds, and three-power cultivation becomes an important part of Mo Cloud Sea's productive infrastructure.

Biography

Building a profession from the beast pool

Chun Yu Cheng arrives at Desolate Wood Reef as a twenty-four-year-old zhuji disciple with a white beast-speaker medal and a single consuming interest: animal husbandry. When Zuo Mo shows him a first-grade yao cultivating pool and an incomplete method, Chun immediately recognizes the opportunity and asks to learn. Zuo Mo places him in charge, supplies materials, and offers a share of the profits. Chun initially wants only the knowledge, but the arrangement gives his specialized labor institutional backing and allows him to pursue experiments that a poor independent practitioner could never afford. He begins by producing six hybrid worms from three butterflies, then studies successive generations until he can alter the beast pool himself. By the ninth generation he breeds a fifth-grade yin-yang twin butterfly, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. The achievement still has clear limits: Chun describes the result as partly fortunate, and his own cultivation is too low to suppress the powerful creature, so Zuo Mo uses the Great Day mo physique to tame it. In response to the breakthrough, Zuo Mo gives Chun the full beast-pool material and orders that his supplies not be restricted, deepening a relationship based on expertise rather than combat rank. Cloud steeds and shen-era husbandry

Chun Yu Cheng's program becomes increasingly strategic as the faction grows. Raising ling beasts requires heavy advance investment and months before any return, but the resulting mounts solve travel-speed problems for Guard Camp. He later combines methods and beast cores from all three races to breed cloud steeds, rare mounts whose balanced powers make them useful, prestigious, and difficult to reproduce. By this stage he commands a large cloud island and assistants from xiu, yao, and mo backgrounds, turning his early personal obsession into an organized research institution. His later experiments apply the same comparative method to Zuo Mo's unusual companions. He designs separate pools or training plans for Tenth Grade, Sunshine, Lil Fire, Lil Black, Lil Pagoda, and Silly Bird, matching sword scripture, yao art, mo skill, shen power, or yin-yang balance to observed traits. Chun openly admits uncertainty where the theory is new, especially with Lil Black's sensitivity and Silly Bird's possible phoenix nature. He remains active when Bie Han asks him to develop mo steeds from blood-bead traits; Chun keeps the aggressive subjects in separate pools, uses costly shen crystals, and insists that the military repay twice the resources consumed. Appearance and personality

At first appearance Chun Yu Cheng is a handsome young man with sharp brows, bright eyes, and a dependable manner. He is twenty-four and already so absorbed in husbandry that he dismisses romantic concerns as distractions from his life's work. Later scenes emphasize his animated speech, possessiveness about his research island, and the eccentric intensity with which he examines unusual creatures. (Chapters 173, 761–762)

Chun is earnest, curious, and almost entirely uninterested in status outside his specialty. He values access to knowledge more than an immediate profit share and becomes highly confident once discussing beasts. That confidence is not simple arrogance: he distinguishes observation from speculation, admits when an experiment may fail, and demands the resources needed for responsible work. Abilities and cultivation

Chun Yu Cheng is a recognized beast speaker, represented early by his white medal, and has already raised two respectable beasts before receiving Zuo Mo's support. His core technique is the design and modification of beast-cultivating pools. Through controlled breeding and repeated generations he can combine traits, evaluate offspring, select compatible training methods, and eventually integrate xiu, yao, mo, and shen-power concepts into husbandry. His abilities depend on time, materials, and stronger protectors. Chun is at zhuji when introduced, has no useful combat ability in the early campaigns, panics during a bandit attack, and receives escape and life-saving talismans rather than a battlefield post. Even after breeding a fifth-grade butterfly, his cultivation cannot tame it. Relationships

Zuo Mo

Zuo Mo supplies Chun Yu Cheng with the beast pool, technical material, assistants, funding, and freedom to experiment. Chun repays that trust by turning incomplete knowledge into breeding systems and strategic mounts. Zuo Mo retains the role of patron and sometimes tamer; the fifth-grade twin butterfly, for example, is bred by Chun but subdued and taken into Zuo Mo's custody rather than kept as Chun's personal beast. Gongsun Cha, Bao Yi, and Bie Han

Gongsun Cha is an early peer whose military path contrasts with Chun's refusal to fight. Bao Yi manages the resources that Chun's costly work consumes, creating practical friction without establishing personal hostility. Bie Han later commissions blood-based mounts, and Chun treats even a top general as a customer who must repay his research budget. These relationships show his place in Mo Cloud Sea: military specialists set operational needs, while Chun protects the integrity and cost of the husbandry program. The experimental companions

Tenth Grade, Sunshine, Lil Fire, Lil Black, Lil Pagoda, and Silly Bird become subjects under Chun's care, not possessions. He studies their bodies and powers, assigns individualized pools or methods, and sometimes risks their irritation through relentless examination.
