Tall

Tall is a disciple of the Fortress of Unyielding Might and leader of a small faction whose members use descriptive names rather than personal ones. He tries to recruit Daneel Anivron for the Legacy Battle, later joins the scheme against him, and becomes an unwitting disguise in Daneel's counterplan. (Chapters 618–652)

Biography

A minor faction leader is outplayed in the Legacy Battle

Tall introduces Short, Round, Thin, and Lean and proposes cooperation in the Legacy Battle, where successful disciples can receive the Chief's mentorship and become powerful Champions. Daneel suspects that Tall's group has deliberately guided him toward situations meant to test or manipulate him, so he refuses to commit after one meeting. When the battle begins, Tall participates in the broader plan to overwhelm Daneel, struggles to find his teammates, and survives the chaos despite being one of the weaker faction leaders. His aim is advancement and survival, not ideological conflict. (Chapters 618–639)

Daneel places part of his consciousness in a Soul Carrier, controls Tall, and later swaps identities with him. The king knocks Tall out, assumes his appearance, and uses the disguise to reach the final stage while observers believe Tall has secretly allied with him. Tall survives the blow and is seen afterward with a head wound, staring at Daneel with an unreadable expression. His latest confirmed character scene leaves him alive but publicly associated with a scheme he did not truly choose. A later occurrence of the ordinary adjective “tall” is not treated as a character appearance. (Chapters 640–652)

Appearance and personality

Tall is notably tall, especially beside the faction leader Snake, and functions as the apparent ringleader of his descriptively named group. He is ambitious enough to seek the Chief's mentorship and manipulative enough to guide newcomers toward planned encounters, but pragmatic enough to abandon grand objectives for survival when the Legacy Battle turns lethal. (Chapters 618–621, 631–639)

Abilities and power

Tall is a trained Fortress disciple and scout, but the supplied chapters do not state his exact realm, Path, or signature technique. His scouting role lets him move away from groups and makes his identity useful to Daneel's infiltration. That same isolation is a vulnerability: Daneel can incapacitate him and replace him without witnesses. Tall's latest state shows no new power after the battle. (Chapters 635–642 and 652)

Relationships

  • Daneel Anivron: Tall first offers cooperation, then joins the coalition against Daneel. Daneel uses him as a controlled carrier and disguise, leaving Tall alive but injured and outmaneuvered. (Chapters 618–652)
  • Elanev: Tall's Legacy Battle faction operates in the Fortress where Elanev trains, but their direct relationship is limited; Tall's main interest is Daneel's value as an ally or target. (Chapters 618–652)

Items

  • Soul Carrier: Daneel uses one of these prepared objects to carry consciousness and control Tall during the Legacy Battle. It is imposed on Tall rather than owned by him. (Chapters 640–642)
