Spikeking

Spikeking, later called Underlord, is a pierced Champion who leads the Order team Brothers Drunk. He tries to subordinate Daneel Anivron's newly arrived group, loses, and then becomes a reluctant but increasingly enthusiastic member of Daneel's mission team. (Chapters 788–821)

Biography

A defeated challenger joins the Overlord

Spikeking targets Daneel's talented newcomers out of greed and assumes that his Peak Eminent Champion power can settle the matter. In the arena he reveals the bone-like spikes that justify his name, but Daneel's layered pressure forces him and all ten subordinates to their knees. Spikeking yields primarily to protect his team from broken legs, then honors the rules requiring three months of service to the victor. His resentment is real, but so are his loyalty to his “maties” and his refusal to break a wager once made. (Chapters 788–789)

As a captain in Daneel's war simulation, Spikeking helps train assigned troops in defensive tactics and delights when Daneel's deception defeats the celebrated God of Tactics. After Daneel becomes Overlord, Spikeking is renamed Underlord and his team joins a five-star infiltration mission. He repeatedly suspects Daneel's plans but follows the command structure, helps gather intelligence, and receives the highest completion grade before realizing that their rewards are owed under another wager. His latest confirmed scene leaves him alive in the Order, still a benchmark used by other Champions when judging power. (Chapters 791–795 and 809–821)

Appearance and personality

Spikeking is heavily pierced, including across his face, and expresses emotion so fully that Daneel jokes his piercings might fly free when his face swells. He is loud, proud, fond of drink, and accustomed to command, yet his concern for his subordinates interrupts selfish ambition. Defeat makes him wary rather than treacherous, and successful missions quickly bring back his boisterous enthusiasm. (Chapters 788–795)

Abilities and power

Spikeking is a Peak Eminent Champion. In combat, holes open across his body and sharp bone-like spikes emerge, turning his body into a close-range weapon. The transformation is formidable within the Eminent Champion realm, but it offers no demonstrated answer to Daneel's multiplied gravity, mental shock, and invisible impacts, which are doubled against him. His team leadership adds tactical defense training and command experience, though Daneel remains the superior overall strategist. (Chapters 788–795)

  • Brothers Drunk: His ten Champion subordinates are drinking companions and loyal teammates. He yields when Daneel's pressure threatens them and continues to command their assigned work under Daneel. (Chapters 788–795)
