Norcet

Norcet is a wealthy Lanthanorian trader whose eye for people and commerce brings him into royal service. He first helps publicize the Olympics, then exposes an Axelorian operation during the catastrophe there, after which Daneel appoints him as Eloise's principal deputy for major civic and commercial projects. Biography

A trader earns the king's trust

Norcet travels across Angaria with his ten-year-old son and an Eminent Human mage, promoting the Olympics at Kellor's request. A former bard as well as one of Lanthanor's wealthiest traders, he turns explanations into performances and uses his journeys to broaden his son's education. During the golden-mosquito attack, he protects the boy, trusts that Daneel has a plan, and follows a suspicious Axelorian mage from a distance with zoom trinkets. His report identifies a building filled with abducted women and gives Lanthanor the lead needed to expose Axelor's role in the disaster. (Chapters 300–352)

Offered public honors, Norcet refuses because publicity could endanger his family and asks for a job instead. Daneel values both that caution and his trade record, asks him to swear an oath, and places him directly under Eloise as her “right hand.” Norcet helps administer identification trials and develops the kingdom's continent-wide transportation and delivery system, including hiring crews and securing quarters in other kingdoms. His development is from independent merchant to trusted public operator: he retains commercial pragmatism, but applies it to institutions whose scale exceeds any private caravan. Appearance and personality

The supplied chapters do not give Norcet a detailed physical description. They instead emphasize a prosperous traveling merchant who is also a protective single father. He is charismatic when selling an idea, cautious about retaliation, modest enough to decline ceremonial credit, and decisive when trust is offered.
