Eldara

Eldara is the former Queen of Eldinor, a gifted and ruthless politician whose effort to retain power through slavery, corruption, and hostage murder is exposed by her daughter and Daneel.

Biography

Power, exposure, and execution

Eldara grows up under an oppressive mother, leaves, then returns to claim her inheritance and pursues power with the same single-mindedness she once resented. As queen she diverts public funds, cooperates with criminal interests, and holds kidnapped elven children as leverage in a black-market slavery operation. When Eldra Dartingnon challenges her in the Grand Debate, Eldara prepares a trigger to kill the captives and preserve deniability. Katerina disarms her while Daneel rescues the children, publicly proving the conspiracy and ending Eldara's campaign. (Chapters 146–177)

Convicted of high treason, Eldara refuses remorse or an appeal to legacy. On the execution stage she takes control of the final act, casting a green-lotus spell that dissolves her body while she remains composed. Later references to “Queen Eldara” after Chapter 181 sometimes concern Eldra or retrospective discussion; the former queen herself is dead. (Chapter 181; Chapters 491 and 509)

Appearance and personality

Eldara is an Elf woman who favors elaborate royal clothing, including a final green gown embroidered with golden leaves. She is intelligent, charismatic, proud, manipulative, and extraordinarily focused on personal autonomy and power. Her dignity at death is genuine, but it does not erase her willingness to enslave children and kill them to protect herself. (Chapters 157–177 and 181)

Abilities and power

Eldara is a trained Elf Mage with political access to Eldinor's formations, secure facilities, communication devices, and a remotely activated explosive failsafe. Her final spell manifests a green jade-like lotus whose opening petals become liquid fire that consumes her body. The act is self-execution rather than an escape technique, and no later survival or consciousness transfer is established. Her most consequential power was institutional control; once the trigger is taken and the captives are exposed, that control collapses. (Chapters 157–177 and 181)

• Eldra Dartingnon: Eldara controls and belittles her daughter, who ultimately helps expose her and orders the lawful execution.
• Katerina: Katerina watches Eldara during the debate and physically removes the hostage trigger at the decisive moment.
