Bam
Bam is a Hero-level giant of the Fortress of Unyielding Might and one of the strongest Fighters in Angaria. His childlike mind and love of making things go “bam” coexist with a Gentle Giant Bloodline that grants immense size and physical power. Ordinary “bam” impact sounds earlier in the corpus are not appearances of this character. (Chapters 562–626)
Biography
The Fortress's childlike giant tests Daneel
Bam arrives outside Lanthanor to test whether Daneel can withstand a casual strike and introduces himself by carving his name across an area large enough for a village. His blow sends the prepared king flying and injures him even through layered defenses, after which Bam apologetically explains that the Grandmaster required the trial. He later calls Daneel to the Fortress with a childish threat against the kingdom, belittles him on arrival, and accepts an arm-wrestling challenge. Daneel's trick wins, briefly sending Bam into a blood-armored rage before the Fortress contains the danger. (Chapters 562–563 and 609–617)
Despite the volatility, Bam is not a political schemer. He obeys his master, guides visitors, reacts directly to praise or insult, and largely wants food, play, and demonstrations of strength. Daneel's research identifies the Gentle Giant Bloodline as the source of Bam's unusual body and growth. At his latest confirmed appearance Bam remains alive within the Fortress; no later common use of the word “bam” is treated as evidence about him. (Chapters 612–626)
Appearance and personality
Bam has a gigantic, immensely muscular body without visible fat. He wears leather armor crossing his chest in an X and a knee-length lower garment. His face and speech are childlike, he refers to himself in the third person, and he is easily bored, proud, hungry, or enraged. Simplicity makes him friendly when calm but dangerous when he cannot regulate humiliation. (Chapters 562–563 and 609–617)
Abilities and power
Bam is a Hero-level Fighter and is described as perhaps the strongest Fighter in the Fortress or continent. A casual punch produces shockwaves, craters, and enough force to overwhelm layered barriers; he can put Champions in recovery for months with a finger. He also manipulates elementary particles without a Mageroot, creating solid footholds for extreme leaps and forcing a teleportation-like movement through Fighter control. When enraged, blood emerges from his pores and hardens into spiked armor. His chief limitation is mental: the Gentle Giant Bloodline damages intellect, and emotional provocation can make his force difficult to control. (Chapters 562–563, 612, and 626)
The Gentle Giant Bloodline lets its possessor become exponentially stronger and assume a giant body. Historical access was restricted to people who already had simple, childlike minds because reduced intellect is a known side effect. The text identifies Bam as an awakened possessor but does not explain how he obtained it, so no further activation mechanics are established. (Chapter 626)
Relationships
- Daneel Anivron: Bam tests, taunts, and arm-wrestles Daneel. Daneel survives the first blow and tricks him in the second contest, gaining access and information but also exposing the danger of Bam's rage. (Chapters 562–563 and 609–617)
- Elanev: Bam is connected to Elanev's brutal Fortress training and comes looking for him in Lanthanor. His presence embodies the physical peak toward which the Fortress pushes its disciples. (Chapters 562–563 and 609–617)
Items
No individually notable personal item is established for Bam. His armor is clothing; his signature strength comes from his body and Bloodline. (Chapters 562 and 626)
