Sword of Truth

The Sword of Truth is the Hoffenberg royal family's level-three legendary longsword and a weapon closely matched to its namesake blood power. The same name is also used for that bloodline, a knightly order, replicas of the weapon, and legendary knights who bear the title; this article concerns the original physical longsword that Natasha Violet draws after becoming queen. History

Replicas and the royal inheritance

Before the original sword appears directly, the Church deploys a silver replica made by three saint cardinals. It retains a one-use portion of the original's power and is intended to sever Felipe from magic items, a life box, or a soul container so that he can be killed decisively; Felipe's group later recovers its spent blade for research. This replica establishes the original's reputation while also showing that a copy is a distinct, consumable object rather than a transfer of the royal sword itself. (Chapters 231–234)

Natasha received a glittering, symbolic Sword of Truth at her coronation, but she still spoke afterward of needing to reach level eight before she could draw and control the actual legendary weapon. Lucien likewise advised that attaining that rank and taking up the level-three sword would give her the leverage to protect the new reign. The distinction matters: coronation made her the royal holder in law and ceremony, while personal cultivation made her an effective wielder. (Chapters 510–511, 514, 523)

The queen reveals the blade

Natasha concealed both her advancement and control of the Sword until Sard's coup. When she finally drew it, its light broke his divine attack; her mastery of the sword's principles had brought her from level eight to level nine. Sard wanted to kill her and seize the weapon, but she escaped his contest with the pope and carried the blade into the Parliament of Nobles. There it became visible proof that the throne could survive the break with the radical Church, and Natasha planted, raised, and drew it as she secured the nobles' support and announced the new settlement. (Chapters 556–565)

The sword was not an unlimited answer to danger. Natasha could not expect it to let her survive a clash between the pope and Sard, and before her own legendary advancement she could carry only a limited number of legendary items. She sometimes left it behind when another item better fit a mission, even though enemies correctly treated it as a decisive threat. (Chapters 558, 576, 605, 607)

Shared campaigns and mature control

Natasha permitted Lucien Evans to wield the sword when his transformation gave him a legendary knight's body. He used it together with the Shield of Truth in the World of Souls and against enemies whom ordinary killing methods could not finish, while Natasha retained ownership and resumed carrying it afterward. The sword thus became part of the couple's coordinated equipment rather than property transferred to Lucien. (Chapters 609, 613–615, 625–640)

After advancing into the legendary realm, Natasha used the longsword on expeditions in nature, the deep ocean, and the struggle against the Lord of Hell's influence. Her control increasingly joined weapon and blood power: she could merge herself into the sword's light and cut an invading primeval-devil shadow from her own body. By Chapter 801 she still held the weapon while considering the underlying mechanism by which its severance prevents resurrection. The item therefore remains current in her custody, although the precise arcana explanation for its highest effects is presented as an open research question rather than settled fact. Abilities and properties

• The original is a level-three legendary longsword. A level-eight Natasha could draw it only two or three times in one battle, and she could not safely rely on it against demigod-level combatants; greater mastery of the matching blood power improves its practical use. (Chapters 558, 576, 801)
• Its defining effect is severance. The blade cuts physical and magical defenses, can disrupt spatial escape, and can destroy the continuity that supports phylacteries, soul containers, or resurrection. The Church's one-use replica preserves a reduced form of this property, while the original can kill a real self through a projection under the right circumstances. (Chapters 231–234, 615, 893)
• The sword contains principles important to the Sword of Truth bloodline's legendary path. Natasha's study and control of it helped her progress from level eight to level nine, but the text does not say that merely holding the weapon grants that advancement to an unrelated user. (Chapters 514, 557)
• Against layered defenses, each severed layer consumes part of the strike's power. Lucien judged that a mummy's stacked protections could exhaust the slash before it reached the target, and the weapon could not quickly cut through the effectively endless Blue Torrent. It is level three, not one of the rare level-four legendary items. (Chapters 619, 761)
• Natasha can combine the blade with her matching blood power so completely that her body becomes swordlike light. She uses that union to excise a possessing shadow and avoid the accompanying spatial tears, but the feat leaves her pale and weakened; the source presents it as synergy between wielder and artifact, not a passive function available to everyone. (Chapter 761)
• The name alone does not prove that the physical weapon is present. References to the Sword of Truth's Knights, the Sword of Truth bloodline, a titled knight called the Sword of Truth, or a replica must be read separately from scenes involving the original longsword.
