Moon Timer

The Moon Timer is Lucien Evans's self-crafted silver pocket watch and unique legendary item. Built around the model of his Observer of Time and Space class, it turns his research into portable control over time, gravity, and space, then grows with him from a level-one artifact into one of the world's top legendary items. (Chapters 605, 759, and 783)

History

Forging an observer's instrument

Lucien completes the Moon Timer as his first self-crafted legendary item. He gives it the rigorous appearance of a silver mechanical pocket watch: gemstones mark time on a white dial, a black second hand ticks within it, and buttons flank the dial. Its chain clips itself to his waistcoat. After testing its two principal buttons and the time-changing response of its casing, Lucien engraves the artifact's name, capabilities, restrictions, maxim, and his own name into its pivotal magic circle. He credits the model of his legendary class with keeping this first attempt from failing, establishing the watch as an extension of his own understanding rather than an inherited relic. Soon afterward, the watch becomes part of Lucien's normal legendary equipment. It helps him conceal the timing of an attack on the Original Fire, but it cannot by itself solve every space-time defense: Kritonia's immunity to sub-legendary space-time effects forces Lucien to use deception and other powers rather than rely on the watch alone. After Kritonia's defeat, Natasha lets Lucien keep the damaged legendary weapon Heart of Time, and Hathaway identifies its parts as material with which Moon Timer can eventually reach level two. Lucien confirms that the improvement must wait until his own command of time and space grows. (Chapters 608 and 610)

Measuring and surviving the Realm of Gates

Moon Timer becomes both instrument and weapon during the expedition through the World of Souls. Its hands respond erratically to distorted time and let Lucien confirm that the Temple of Spirits changes the relationship between time inside and outside. In battle he repeatedly presses the watch to stop time, freezes a primordial mummy long enough to deliver a sequence of attacks, and disturbs local time so incoming arrows and rays lose their target. These uses show the advantage of carrying several forms of space-time control in one artifact, but also expose a hard resource limit: spending Advanced Time Stop can leave the watch recovering for a full day, and exhausting its stored uses deprives Lucien of a principal survival tool. The watch's resistance is relative rather than absolute. An imitation of a top legend's Advanced Time Stop affects Lucien heavily despite Moon Timer and the Shield of Truth, and a demigod-level enemy can overwhelm the protection it normally supplies. Conversely, when the Realm of Gates allows enough subjective time to pass, Moon Timer recovers along with Lucien's other expended legendary equipment. Lucien remains its owner and wielder throughout these failures and restorations; no transfer occurs. (Chapters 627, 635, and 640)

Time Plate refinement

After Lucien reaches level three of legendary, Moon Timer again lags behind his own rank, and the rarity of space-time materials makes improvement a strategic concern. He and Natasha therefore pursue the Time Plate in the Abyss. Lucien recognizes patterns on that legendary material resembling the watch's own design and obtains it for the next refinement. The upgraded Moon Timer reaches level three of legendary, becomes closely linked to Lucien's cognitive world, and produces effects close to the peak of legendary. He demonstrates the stronger Advanced Time Stop against the Master of the Boundless Ocean, using the frozen interval to escape a Death Swirl and shape a counterattack. At this stage the watch also develops Real Vision, an automatic response to abnormal control of time and space. When Danisos's breath slows the region around Lucien, Moon Timer ticks without a manual command and restores relative regularity around its wearer. The defense does not make the artifact supreme over all time powers: Danisos can dim it by exerting his authority, and his follow-up attacks remain dangerous. Its value lies in creating the interval in which Lucien can act rather than making him categorically immune to every legend. (Chapters 775 and 778)

Top-legendary reconstruction

Lucien's first attempt to raise Moon Timer beyond level three fails. The watch remains at its former level, while the accident seriously injures Lucien and requires half a year of recovery. Limited materials make a second failure especially costly, so he excludes even Natasha from the laboratory and adjusts the new alchemical circle with exceptional care. The successful reconstruction changes the watch subtly, adds a new button, and makes it the fourteenth top legendary item recognized in the narrative. (Chapter 783)

The final upgrade adds Faster Cast, raises Advanced Time Stop and Gravity Collapse to top-legendary strength, and preserves a limit of five uses per day for each of those two powers. Moon Timer remains a working part of Lucien's equipment afterward: it helps him test accounts of past events, stop Dracula's transformed swarm, and plan escape from the primeval devils. The corpus never records its destruction, loss, or transfer, so its latest established state is a top legendary item in Lucien's possession. (Chapters 776, 780, 801, and 809)

Abilities and properties

Qualification and passive protection

At level one, Moon Timer requires a wearer with a sufficiently developed cognitive world. A sorcerer deeply versed in time and space must at least have a substantiated cognitive world; other users require a half-solidified one. An unqualified user's body and soul would be washed away by time, causing rapid aging and death. For a qualified wearer, it grants immunity to space-time abilities below legendary rank, improves the accuracy and strength of the wearer's own space-time spells, and offers limited resistance to legendary time control. It also slows the owner's aging enough to add 520 years of longevity. (Chapter 605)

The protection does not scale into unconditional immunity. The top-legend imitation in the Realm of Gates still slows Lucien substantially, and Danisos can initially dim the watch by exerting greater authority over time. After the level-three refinement, Real Vision becomes an innate, automatic quality: abnormal space-time control triggers the watch, which keeps the nearby region relatively regular long enough for Lucien to respond. Advanced Time Stop and local time control

The right-side button casts Advanced Time Stop. The original level-one version is available twice per day; later refinements raise the maximum to five uses and ultimately bring each use to top-legendary strength. When activated, color drains from the affected area and movement stops while Lucien remains able to act. He uses that interval for escape, repositioning, or a rapid sequence of attacks. The effect is not equally decisive against every target: opponents resistant to space-time consolidation may break free early, and sufficiently superior time control can penetrate the watch's defense. (Chapters 605, 620, 759, 778, and 780)

Stroking the watch's casing can accelerate or decelerate time within a limited area, an effect partly comparable to Lucien's Space Staff. Unlike the button's fixed daily allotment, the maximum use of this local manipulation depends on the wielder's spiritual power. Lucien also employs the watch as a measuring instrument: its three hands respond to anomalous time, and he combines its readings with other divination tools when checking temporal traces. Gravity Collapse and spatial control

The left-side button casts Gravity Collapse. In its first demonstrated form, it distorts space and makes gravity chaotic across several thousand meters, directly harms targets, and bends the trajectories of effects that do not work directly on a body. That lets it function as crowd control as well as an attack. It begins with two uses per day, rises to five after later refinements, and reaches top-legendary strength in the final reconstruction. Stored spells and accelerated casting

The dial can store twelve ninth-circle spells in advance. Those spells may be activated instantly without consuming the user's spiritual power, giving the watch a reserve distinct from its built-in legendary effects. The final upgrade adds Faster Cast, which halves the casting time of a legendary spell. It reproduces the practical acceleration demonstrated by Danisos, but only three times per day rather than without limit. These stored and accelerated options increase Lucien's tactical breadth; they do not remove the separate charge limits or recovery requirements of Advanced Time Stop and Gravity Collapse. Damage, depletion, and recovery

Moon Timer can be depleted without being destroyed. A full use of Advanced Time Stop may require a day of recovery, while unusually accelerated local time can restore the watch after enough subjective time has elapsed. Upgrading it is itself dangerous: Lucien's failed level-four attempt leaves the artifact unimproved and injures him for half a year. These constraints make resource management and careful alchemy part of the item's operation even after it reaches legendary heights. (Chapters 619, 623, 635, and 783)
