Yakov

Yakov, nicknamed Brown Bear, is a Schachran mercenary who overcomes physical weakness, awakens blood power, and becomes eligible for knighthood just as an old demonic conspiracy targets his company. (Chapters 707–714)

Biography

Advancement entangled with a hidden cult

Yakov survives a laborer's shortened life by pushing himself into mercenary work and eventually activates his blood power, reporting it lawfully and celebrating a promised knighting. Concern for Anna and Katrina draws him back into danger when their investigation touches a dead sorcerer and Duke Duda. The enemy captures Yakov's people and blames their coming deaths on his involvement, but the intelligence Yakov supplied lets Katrina and Carendia connect Duda to the scheme and mount a rescue. His achievement therefore brings status and responsibility together: becoming a knight cannot protect him from stronger conspirators, but it gives his decisions wider consequences. Appearance and abilities

Yakov is a tall, brawny mercenary under thirty with short yellow hair and an aging beard. His newly awakened blood power produces snowflake patterns on his hands, indicating a cold-related Blessing, but the excerpts do not explain its named techniques, rank, or limits. (Chapters 707–712)
