Klaus

Klaus, the Alchemy Master, is a legendary sorcerer, Highest Council member, and creator of major alchemical machines including the magic steam train. His puppets and golems support both industry and combat, while his death in the Realm of Gates demonstrates the danger that remains even for a prepared legendary researcher. Biography

Alchemical ambition and the Realm of Gates

Klaus participates in the Congress as both inventor and policy adviser. He argues that dwarf artisans and ordinary workers are insufficient for the demand created by radios and other devices, and that mechanical products must replace some expensive magic-circle functions if those technologies are to spread. His own demiplane reflects that program on a legendary scale: golems, puppets, fortresses, trains, and floating cities are not isolated curiosities but one connected vision of alchemy as infrastructure. He also remains an arcanist driven by unresolved life, studying artificial beings and joining colleagues who investigate new mathematics and crystal structures. (Chapters 350, 457, 581, 596, and 602)

In the Realm of Gates, Klaus spends costly substitute puppets to destroy an apparent Demigod-lich and then joins Lucien against a primordial mummy because fleeing may only redirect the threat. He uses his Alchemy Barrier, elemental legendary spells, an army from Alchemy Paradise, and a Replica Puppet that transfers damage to strip the mummy's defenses. The joint attack succeeds, but Klaus pauses at the Furnace of Souls, fascinated by the truth it may contain. A hidden enemy uses that moment to cast Light of Judgment; despite his renewed defenses, Klaus's body and soul dissolve. He dies without regretting that he saw the furnace, and the Highest Council later mourns him while pledging to answer the Lord of Hell. (Chapters 619–622 and 648–649)

Appearance and personality

Klaus is black-haired and black-eyed and often wears a cunning smile. A blond little-girl puppet commonly accompanies him. He is practical about manufacturing constraints and wry in conversation, but his deepest trait is an arcanist's curiosity: even after an exhausting battle, the Furnace of Souls holds his attention strongly enough to shape the final moment of his life. (Chapters 350, 457, and 619–620)

Magic, abilities, and skills

Klaus specializes in alchemy, puppets, golems, and item-mediated substitution. Alchemy Barrier forms an iron-black fortress; Grandeur Obliteration destroys a target represented by one of his puppets at enormous cost; and Replica Puppet links a model to an enemy so that damage to the model destroys corresponding defenses. His demiplane, Alchemy Paradise, reinforces summoned constructs and can field large numbers of golems and puppets. These abilities are powerful but resource-intensive: the Realm of Gates fights consume long-kept legendary puppets and much of his power, while higher-ranked enemies can still crush his constructs or penetrate his prepared defenses.
