Karl, born Brades, is a talented Heidler Magic College student with an unusually powerful family background. Friendship and danger at Heidler

Karl meets Donnie after effortlessly resolving a problem that makes Donnie wonder why he did not choose knighthood. His guarded travel, family connections, and later recognition reveal that he is not an ordinary applicant, but he still helps Donnie's practical work and joins student life at Heidler. Karl understands why mathematics and microscopic theory matter to necromancy and explains the long curriculum while casually playing, making formidable preparation look easy without belittling his classmates.
