Francis

Francis is a mysterious outsider who enters Ell's Secret Praying Congress as a philosopher and religious strategist. His apparent devotion conceals an independent agenda centered on false gods and divine power; like Lucien's Leviathan identity, his role in the cult is a deliberate performance rather than a transparent allegiance. Biography

Rewriting a faith to reach its power

Francis wins Ell's trust by proposing that the defeated fire god Avando and the rising Ell be presented as one deity of revival, fertility, redemption, fire, and destruction. The doctrine can reinterpret every setback as a divine test, making followers harder to disillusion and strengthening Ell through belief. Francis then helps lure and defeat the God of Moon and delivers the captured God's Glory, all while Lucien suspects that his eastern origin story, fanatical manner, and claimed bloodline-knight history are constructed covers. His calm curiosity about divine realms and treasures shows that the cult's success is a means to investigate or seize power, not his final purpose. (Chapters 467–478)

When the false-god struggle collapses into a broader battle, Francis damages the domain and acts with enough strength to unsettle every side. His interventions indirectly expose divine-power structures that later help Lucien modify faith circles. The corpus never clearly confirms Francis's true faction or ultimate fate, so his last established role remains that of a capable infiltrator whose scheme outlives his direct presence through what Lucien learns from it. Appearance and personality

Francis has black hair and eyes, a slender frame, and soft features. He wears a loose white robe and carries a sword. His habitual faint or mysterious smile, controlled amusement, and convincing fanaticism make it difficult even for Lucien to separate genuine knowledge from performance. (Chapters 467–478)

Powers and skills

Francis demonstrates high-level physical or bloodline power while claiming that he gained it by bathing in a hydra's blood and eating its heart; Lucien immediately treats that account as a cover, so the true origin is unconfirmed. He also understands theology, occultism, faith distribution, and realm structures well enough to redesign a religion and sabotage a divine domain.
