Felicia

Felicia is a young Hayne noblewoman and one of Victor's long-term music students. Although her family gives her access to Aalto society, her position in a collateral branch leaves her worried that marriage will end her musical ambitions. Her work beside Lucien gradually turns an initially disdainful classmate into a cooperative peer who begins a career of her own. (Chapters 19–22, 58, 69–81, 284, and 718)

Biography

Choosing music over a prescribed future

Felicia enters Victor's class as a serious flutist who has studied under him for five years and is conscious of both her noble standing and its limits. She initially joins Lott and Herodotus in looking down on Lucien's poverty, but his ideas and the music he brings to Victor's threatened concert force her to reconsider him. The Symphony of Fate speaks directly to her fear that her father's failure to inherit will leave her no choice but an arranged marriage; encouraged rather than merely entertained, she commits herself more firmly to music and works with Lucien backstage as a genuine classmate. Their new cooperation remains practical as well as friendly. Felicia obtains Moonlight Rose through her family and exchanges it for Lucien's help with her composition, then uses his feedback instead of treating his talent only as a social novelty. She later holds her first concert and prepares to start a professional career, a concrete answer to the insecurity that once made her doubt the value of continuing. Decades later, Lucien still recognizes her among the Aalto concert audience, showing that she remains connected to the musical world they entered together. (Chapters 69–81, 99, 284, and 718)

Appearance and personality

Felicia is introduced at seventeen or eighteen with long bright-red hair, red eyes, and a disciplined posture. She is proud, socially alert, and initially severe toward an outsider, but she can revise her judgment when skill and effort warrant it. Music and skills

Felicia is trained as a flutist and studies composition under Victor.
