Alfalia
Alfalia is an arcanist who joins the Atom Institution after articulating a serious plan for her own knowledge system. Beginning as Heidi's assistant, she contributes to microscopic research and the practical development of an artificial-intelligence system while growing into a steady member of Lucien's wider research community. (Chapters 532–658 and 692–784)
Biography
Finding a place in collaborative research
Alfalia enters the Atom Institution through a recruitment process that asks candidates for more than a desire to climb ranks. Her answer focuses on goals within her knowledge system, aligning her with Lucien's insistence that researchers define what they want to understand. Once accepted, she attends the institution's debates over new alchemy and unconfirmed electron hypotheses, where skepticism is praised rather than punished. Her earlier work as Heidi's assistant leads her into a new project with Blake, making collaboration and intellectual trust the basis of her role. (Chapters 532–595 and 646)
She helps Heidi, Chelly, and Lowi design the Heidi–Chelly A.I. System using improved components developed across many related research groups. During later crises she keeps practical perspective, urging the others to return to their own work when waiting can produce no information. By the time the artificial-intelligence machine is demonstrated in a smaller form, Alfalia has moved from applicant to an established member of the team presenting its progress. (Chapters 658, 692, 748, and 784)
Personality and skills
Alfalia is purposeful, collegial, and practical. Her work covers microscopic experiments, electronic components, and the collaborative construction of an artificial-intelligence system. The corpus does not identify a signature spell, exact sorcerer circle, or individual component she alone invented, so her contributions should be understood as team-based research rather than solitary authorship. (Chapters 544, 595, 646–658, and 784)
