Sir Lars
Sir Lars is a Mitfield Paladin, jouster, and son of a Duke whose border territory makes him a likely future neighbour and trading partner of Wistover. His tournament service builds martial reputation before he inherits his father's office.
Biography
Proving himself at Wistover's Royal Joust
Lars comes to Wistover as one of four ducal sons required to serve in the Mitfield Royal Order before inheriting. Because his future border territory will deal repeatedly with Cygnia, the tournament is both martial proving ground and regional introduction. He defeats Sir Martin fifteen points to thirteen, using conservative healing so a minor injury does not bruise while preserving his stamina, and later breaks five consecutive lances to win another match by one point. Those performances give him the practical reputation expected of a future Duke rather than leaving him known only for schooling and birth. (Chapters 620–626 and 643)
Lars also resists reducing the joust to marriage politics. He prefers the real circuit, where spectators follow the sport, and jokes with Elanor about the bride his father may arrange when he returns home. His latest appearance therefore balances duty with personal preference: he accepts that marriage and inheritance are approaching, but values Paladin service, competition, and the cross-border relationships built through them. (Chapter 664)
Appearance and personality
The corpus gives no stable physical description of Lars beyond his knightly equipment. He salutes the Royals and Dominic formally in the arena, but speaks with easy humour in private and enjoys jousting for the sport itself. He manages injuries conservatively rather than exhausting his magic for comfort. (Chapters 625–626 and 664)
Magic, skills, and craft
Lars is a Paladin with healing magic. During a match, he uses only enough healing to prevent bruising and reduce tenderness because heavier use would tire him before later passes, showing that the magic consumes a limited reserve relevant to tournament endurance. His other demonstrated skills are mounted lance control, shielding, repeated clean impacts, and remaining effective through multi-pass matches. (Chapters 625–626 and 643)
Relationships
- Elanor: Lars already knows Elanor socially and trades jokes with her about Paladin service and his father's attempts to arrange a marriage. (Chapters 621 and 664)
- Dominic Wavemates: Lars salutes Dominic as host and views Wistover as a future partner for his border territory. (Chapters 620–625)
- His father: Lars is his father's heir after completing service in the Royal Order, but expects the Duke to control both his succession duties and marriage prospects. (Chapters 620–621 and 664)
Items
- Jousting armour, shield, lance, and horse: Lars uses standard tournament equipment to win close multi-pass matches. The corpus gives none of these pieces an individual magical identity. (Chapters 625–626 and 643)
