Tathagata Spear

The Tathagata Spear is Baek Haeju's conscious divine weapon. It channels her jade-colored energy, supports both precision attacks and wide-area techniques, and serves as a medium for the anti-evil power with which she protects others.

History

Army Commander battles

Baek carries the Tathagata Spear into the rescue operation against Raging Temperance, where it pierces the Army Commander's body after the Spear of Purity creates an opening. She then uses it against Twisted Kindness, coordinating its strikes with Seol and the other rescuers. The weapon remains part of her regular equipment afterward and is sufficiently responsive that Baek attributes an audible comment to its consciousness. (Chapters 145–147 and 162)

Path of the Soul

Inside the Path of the Soul, Baek demonstrates the spear's range and flexibility. She sends precise sprays of jade sword qi from its tip to destroy falling boulders, channels calming anti-evil energy through it to shield Seol's mind and body from an illusion trial, and makes its head fork into three flexible attacks. These effects occur through Baek's power and technique working through the weapon; the corpus does not assign every displayed technique to the spear alone. (Chapter 162)

Final war

Baek retains the weapon throughout the final campaign. Its energy forces even Twisted Kindness to respond cautiously, and Baek later drives it into the Parasite Queen's heart after accumulated damage leaves the Queen vulnerable. The strike contributes to the coalition's victory but is not presented as a weapon that could have killed the Queen unaided. (Chapters 194, 197, and 200)

Abilities and properties

  • The spear is conscious and communicates reactions to Baek, including by vibrating; the corpus does not fully explain the range or independence of that consciousness. (Chapter 162)
  • It conducts Baek's jade-colored sword qi with enough control to split attacks across many moving targets. (Chapter 162)
  • It can channel anti-evil energy that calms and protects a recipient's mind and body. (Chapter 162)
  • Its head can divide into three spear-like extensions that bend toward separate targets. (Chapter 162)
  • It can damage Army Commanders and pierce the Parasite Queen once allied attacks have created an opening, but those feats depend on Baek's strength and coalition support. (Chapters 145–147, 197, and 200)
