Starkeeper

The Starkeeper is the former Union Kingdom Sky Castle transformed by the Empire and Pantheon into a high-altitude celestial base, launch complex, and late-war stronghold.

History

From Sky Castle to celestial base

The former Union capital is rebuilt so extensively that it becomes known as Starkeeper. Multiple runways, control facilities, construction zones, and high-altitude launch systems turn the floating landmass into the center of the Empire’s moon-facing plan. Its High Committee coordinates astronauts and launches while Pantheon creations perform construction work too large for ordinary machinery. (Chapters 278–279)

Operation against Loom

Starkeeper launches spacecraft, supports the growing space station, and hosts the electron cannon used in the attack on Loom. The base is itself vulnerable to the moon’s city-destroying weapons, so its continued survival is essential to the Empire’s ability to guide, supply, and communicate with the Lunar Strike Operation. (Chapters 279–283)

Stronghold against the old gods

After the Fall reveals that Sky Castles were originally old-god strongholds, Starkeeper remains the Empire’s technologically transformed counterpart. It arrives with airborne carrier fleets, dwarfs Bifnen’s lead castle, provides engineering and refueling support, broadcasts the war through orbital satellites, and carries Lakrak into the decisive confrontation. Abilities and properties

• Starkeeper is a floating landmass equipped with multiple runways, control towers, launch pads, laboratories, communications teams, and a governing High Committee. (Chapters 278–279)
• Its thin high-altitude atmosphere improves rocket-launch efficiency, but it creates health and logistical burdens for visitors and long-term personnel. (Chapter 278)
• Pantheon miracles, advanced science, and magic support continued construction and allow the base to function as an external extension of the Empire rather than merely a vehicle. (Chapters 278–295)
• Orbital communications let Starkeeper guide spacecraft and broadcast battlefield events worldwide, while its deck and engineering forces support aircraft, apostles, and captured Sky Castles. (Chapters 297–308)
• It is several times larger than Bifnen’s first Sky Castle, yet still remains a vulnerable strategic target: destruction by Loom’s Pulverizer would have eliminated the Empire’s principal launch base and counterattack route. (Chapter 280) (Chapter 307)
