Golden Tablet

The Golden Tablet is a recurring type of inscribed Kalonbar relic; the tablets found in different ruins carry distinct texts and should not be treated as one repeatedly transferred object.

History

Lakrak’s first tablet

Lakrak finds a damaged golden tablet inside the altar carried by the Ancient Coleoptera. Its repeated engraved signs lead his clan to recognize the concept of writing. The system identifies this specific tablet as The Way to the Great Kalonbar Empire (2), a boastful introduction that also hints at other Kalonbar remains, although the early Lizardmen cannot yet translate it. (Chapters 10–11)

Preserved relics and a different inscription

Golden tablets later accumulate in storage at Orazen Palace. During the fourth-continent expedition, a separate large tablet carried by Hwae-Sa draws Mazdari’s attention because its content differs from the palace collection’s praise of Kalonbar. The system identifies this distinct relic as Collapse of the Great Kalonbar Empire (3). (Chapter 22) (Chapter 162)

Abilities and properties

  • The tablets preserve writing in durable gold. Gold does not rust or readily change color, but it is soft, heavy, and of little practical use to an early iron-using society. (Chapter 11)
  • Repeated engraved signs can reveal the underlying concept of written language even before the inscription is understood, making Lakrak’s find culturally more valuable than its immediate information content. (Chapters 10–11)
  • The player interface reveals a tablet’s title and summary, while mortal translation requires a much more developed society with archaeologists, linguists, universities, and comparative evidence. (Chapter 11)
  • Different tablets contain different records. Their shared material and Kalonbar origin do not make The Way to the Great Kalonbar Empire and Collapse of the Great Kalonbar Empire the same physical artifact. (Chapter 11) (Chapter 162)
