Tatar

Tatar is a Black Scale warrior remembered both for defeating ten Trolls and for turning a difficult post in Maganen into a functioning relationship with the Astacidea islands.

Biography

A straight arrow in Maganen

Tatar is sent to Maganen as a newly appointed executive and approaches the position with rigid honesty rather than treating it as an easy coastal reward. He uses royal authority to make Lizardman warriors build housing and distribute food to arriving Astacideas, then investigates a suspicious second delegation and gathers island chiefs through Lubo. Tatar’s combination of aid, skepticism, and controlled leverage helps convert irregular trade into a broader relationship, extending Black Scale’s influence without simply conquering the archipelago. (Chapters 55–58)

His earlier feat of defeating ten Trolls to save a Halfling becomes a national measure of warriorly excellence and love for the people. After death, Tatar continues training warriors in the afterlife and returns to active service with the Pantheon, helping transport allies, attending apostolic councils, and fighting during the assault on Loom. His survival as a remembered example gives later soldiers both a standard to exceed and an experienced warrior who can still join them. (Chapters 70, 84, 144, 197, 226–246, and 282–283)

Appearance and personality

Tatar is a Lizardman warrior who is one-eyed by his later appearances and rides a Cockatoo. He is described as a straight arrow: dutiful, literal, and willing to carry out administrative work without abandoning a warrior’s caution. In the Pantheon he remains socially grounded, joking about drinking habits even while regarding the gods themselves as distant. (Chapters 55–58, 226–246, and 282–283)

Powers and abilities

Tatar is an exceptional mortal warrior capable of defeating ten Trolls alone, riding and fighting from a Cockatoo, and training later warriors from the afterlife. The corpus does not name a personal skill, divine enhancement, or magical attack responsible for the famous victory. His later ability to appear in Pantheon battles derives from Night Sky’s afterlife and apostolic mobilization, not established immortality during mortal life. (Chapters 70, 84, 144, 197, and 282–283)
