Quezle

Quezle is a Lizardman chief who resists Lakrak until defeat, then becomes his black-scaled adjutant. Quezle’s observations and conversations with the king are preserved in the book Morale, shaping later Black Scale ethics.

Biography

From rival chief to witness

Quezle’s peninsula tribe resists Lakrak to the end, but after defeat joins Black Scale and even shares its black scales. As adjutant, Quezle questions Lakrak’s deductions rather than merely agreeing, admits when the reasoning holds, and still urges the king to leave danger to subordinates when the hill battle turns fatal. Lakrak refuses because his power creates an obligation to help people he could save. Quezle withdraws last and grieves the duty of telling Zaol, then interprets Lakrak’s death as a moral foundation for Black Scale rather than only a military loss. His later book Morale records observations and dialogue more than abstract doctrine, allowing descendants such as Kyle to study Lakrak’s conduct through the eyes of a former enemy. (Chapters 72–81)
