Oboi
Oboi is a decorated Frogman warrior, henchman of tribal chief Auloi, and friend of Shunen. He acts as the strongest internal opponent to Lakrak’s attempt to replace domination with trade between Frogmen and Lizardmen.
Biography
Resistance to Lakrak’s trade
Oboi stands beside Shunen during the first barter meetings and repeatedly interrupts concessions that might let the black-scaled Lizardmen obtain bows or equal standing. He kicks Owen, watches the traders suspiciously, and opposes moving negotiations away from the public site because he recognizes that Lakrak is building trust with Auloi’s son. After visiting the Lizardman village, Oboi confirms that Lakrak has told the truth but still frames cooperation as a reward for service to Frogmen. When rebellion begins, he orders the black Lizardmen killed and summons scattered warriors to the burning village. Manun, carrying Zaol and an errand boy, destroys Oboi’s force, ending the faction that tried to preserve the old hierarchy through violence. (Chapters 13–18)
Appearance and personality
Oboi is a Frogman warrior with the fanciest decorations after Shunen, visually marking his proximity to tribal leadership. No coloration or weapon is individually described. (Chapter 13)
He is suspicious, domineering, and politically alert. Oboi notices the danger in trade and trust earlier than Shunen, but his insistence on subordination prevents him from adapting when Lizardman power rises. (Chapters 13–17)
Powers and abilities
Oboi has recognized warrior status and enough authority to direct messengers and fighters. He can physically abuse captives and organize a response during the village attack, but the corpus demonstrates no Miracle or exceptional technique. Manun and the mounted Lizardmen overwhelm him decisively. (Chapters 14–18)
