Rule behind a concealed identity
Hwee-Seo governs Automation while hiding the lord’s identity, a precaution shaped by the assassination of his mother. He uses four powerful families as his hands and feet and sets them to watch one another, preventing any single subordinate group from controlling all access to him. During negotiations, Lakrak pieces together who he is; Hwee-Seo’s guarded response shows how thoroughly survival and government have become tied to secrecy rather than public kingship. The same protective system burdens succession. Hwee-Seo has several children who can become rivals or targets, and secrecy gives them limited preparation for the authority they may inherit. After Hwee-Dan’s death and the surrounding contest, Hwee-Kyung accumulates the goods and position associated with succession, while Hwee-Seo is subsequently referred to as Automation’s former lord. Hwee-Seo is an older Human man whose wrinkled hands are among the few specific physical details supplied. His outward restraint matches a life organized around concealment.
