Longbeard

Longbeard is a two-foot-tall gnome pirate whose eight-foot beard is tougher than most weapons. One of the troublemakers recruited after the Jolly Rancher expanded, he combines caution, concealment skills, trading instincts, and an increasingly supernatural beard while keeping the history that drove him to sea almost entirely private. Biography

A practical pirate with an impossible beard

Longbeard joins Jack's enlarged crew as a dedicated troublemaker, but he often supplies the caution missing from its louder members. He tries to interrupt Bob before a dangerous declaration on the River Styx and quickly understands schemes such as tax fraud that others treat as jokes. During expeditions, his beard becomes a working tool: he lengthens it into a lasso to seize shooting-star ore, turning a feature he cannot cut into one of the crew's most reliable means of retrieval. Immortality and a past that follows

After the crew's Challenge-realm trial, Longbeard emerges stronger and his beard begins tingling before danger, warning him about threats such as Grimshaw. The improvement makes his hidden past more urgent rather than less. He admits that it may catch up and endanger everyone and, embarrassed by the possibility, offers to leave. His shipmates refuse to reduce him to that risk; Longbeard stays and later uses beard, disguise craft, commerce, and storytelling as practical service to the family that accepted his silence. Holding the crew together

In later battles Longbeard expands his beard into whips and restraints, stalling enemies while allies steal or disable equipment. He also tracks dangerous movements and notices when Pebbles disappears, helping initiate the missing hamster's rescue. When Jack temporarily leaves, Longbeard remains the only crewmate who has never properly explained his past; Jack chooses not to press him. The sadness of that separation confirms that secrecy has not prevented Longbeard from becoming emotionally invested in the crew. (Chapters 2334, 2368–2372, 2386)

Appearance and personality

Longbeard is a roughly two-foot-tall gnome with a beard about eight feet long. The beard's Adamantis-Weave Spider silk is so tough that shaving it would require at least Heavenly Immortal power. He is pragmatic, alert, and more risk-aware than his companions, yet shares their appetite for mischief. Shame and caution surround his unrevealed past, while his continuing loyalty shows that guardedness is not the same as detachment. (Chapters 1443, 1527, 1713, 2386)

Abilities and cultivation

Longbeard completes the crew's immortality challenge and operates as an Earth Immortal. His beard can extend far beyond its normal length, form lassos, anchors, whips, and restraints, and endure force that would destroy ordinary hair. After the trial it also tingles as a danger sense, though the warning does not explain a threat or guarantee enough time to avoid it. He supplements this power with convincing zombie makeup, appraisal and sales work, and battlefield coordination. His primary limits are scale and disclosure: stronger enemies can still force him into support roles, and the origin or full nature of his beard and past remains unconfirmed.
