Anthony
Anthony is General Ragnar's analyst and administrative deputy during the first Midnight Games. A distant relation of the Jotun royal family, he provides an emergency communication channel, evaluates new worlds, and negotiates with Earth's leaders from a position of imperial superiority that battlefield evidence eventually forces him to revise. (Chapters 119–168)
Biography
Testing the Inn and negotiating with Earth
Ragnar orders Anthony to measure the Inn's environment, assess diplomatic risks, and handle cooperation after the general leaves. Anthony negotiates more rigidly than his commander, dismissing proposals rather than bargaining when he considers Earth too weak to matter. He nevertheless remains professional, schedules follow-up meetings, and reports a possible Nibiru mermaid directly to the royal family through the kinship channel that justified his assignment. (Chapters 119–150)
Earth's performance in the Games forces a meaningful correction. Anthony initially uses rewards to pressure its soldiers into taking greater risks, but records their unfamiliar formations and admits they are killing zombies faster than imperial troops. He supplies later battlefield dossiers, adjusts support, and accepts the Council of New Order as the new negotiating party without sentiment. After the war, Ragnar informs him that their command will leave Vegus and be replaced, ending Anthony's local role with greater respect for a force he had dismissed. (Chapters 150–168)
Appearance and personality
Anthony appears relatively weak beside Ragnar's more imposing soldiers, but carries the confidence of noble birth and a superior civilization. He is analytical, direct, proud, strictly professional, and capable of calculated mind games. His arrogance makes early negotiation unnecessarily rigid; his training still allows observed performance to outweigh that prejudice once Earth proves useful. (Chapters 119–124, 150–168)
Abilities and cultivation
Anthony runs environmental tests, military recordings, strategic analysis, diplomatic scheduling, and interplanetary reporting. His distant royal blood gives Ragnar a faster route to the imperial family during emergencies, an institutional privilege rather than a supernatural technique. He can plan deployments and interpret unfamiliar group tactics, but the narrative does not identify his cultivation realm or show a signature combat ability. His main limitation is bias: undervaluing weaker civilizations initially blinds him to useful methods. (Chapters 119–150, 158–168)
Relationships
- General Ragnar: Anthony obeys Ragnar without resentment because the general has repeatedly proved worthy of command, then assumes negotiation and strategy when Ragnar returns to the war. (Chapters 119–124, 150, 168)
- Earth's leaders: Anthony begins by treating them as petitioners, challenges them to prove equality through performance, and provides greater support after their soldiers do so. (Chapters 121–168)
- Jotun royal family: His distant kinship makes him an authorized emergency liaison, allowing reports such as the suspected mermaid sighting to bypass slow procedure. (Chapter 136)
Items
Anthony has no finalized personal item. His recording arrays, environmental instruments, reports, and dossiers are Jotun military equipment used in his official duties.
