Self-Driving Carriage

The Self-Driving Carriage is Kai’s extensively modified land and air vehicle. Although he buys the underlying carriage in Chapter 58 and applies its defining automation in Chapter 60, its first full appearance as an operating self-driving vehicle is Chapter 61. It becomes the original party’s mobile base before teleportation makes it less necessary. (Chapters 58, 60–61)

History

Purchase and transformation

Kai purchases a large carriage that can carry ten people comfortably or about fifteen at maximum capacity. Initially driven conventionally, it is later rebuilt with steel and redesigned seating, storage, protection spells, and theft countermeasures. He applies Auto-Operate, which connects the carriage to his map and lets him choose a destination without a coachman, then adds danger detection, automatic defenses and weapons, a speed mode, and a flight mode. (Chapters 58, 60–61)

Party transport

The carriage rapidly becomes the group’s standard long-distance transportation. Its speed reduces journeys of weeks to hours or days, and its flight lets the party escape pursuit, bypass rough terrain, and reach destinations unavailable by ordinary road. The cabin remains smooth for passengers even while the exterior moves at extreme speed. It carries the expanding party through Sarkylla and later transports an eastern Spirit World expedition, with extra spirit warriors forced to follow separately because the vehicle still holds only about fifteen. (Chapters 61, 73, 101–102, 287)

Retirement and return to service

As Kai’s teleportation becomes routine, he stops relying on the carriage and stores it in his inventory rather than disposing of it. Years later he brings it out for the Nord family’s ceremonial arrival, with a coachman pretending to drive while autopilot handles the journey. Gwen and the original party subsequently request it for nostalgic travel in Windonia, confirming that it remains functional, capable of flight, and under Kai’s control. (Chapters 448, 522)

Abilities and properties

Auto-Operate follows destinations selected through Kai’s map, navigates around obstacles, and removes the need for horses or a driver. Speed mode compresses travel time dramatically; flight mode permits immediate aerial movement. Protective magic, danger detection, automatic weapons, anti-theft measures, steel reinforcement, and passenger-stabilizing comfort make it more than an ordinary carriage. Its capacity remains finite, and its early collision with a wyvern shows that aerial travel can still bring the vehicle into danger even when its occupants are protected.
