Biography

Sabotage, betrayal, and arrest

Rick first meets the assassins' leader Carlile in secret, condemning the disorder that threatens their sacrifice plan. To preserve his cover, he kills retreating allies of the bandits and then fights beside Kai, mixing partial truths about the organization into his explanation. Back at camp he uses his S-Rank authority to blame and divide the C-Rank adventurers, hoping they will become easier offerings. Kai detects the deception but allows the raid to continue while warning his own companions. (Chapters 80–82)

During the fight with Carlos, Rick abandons the performance and murders longtime party members, including Charles, revealing that ambition for the Demon King's favor outweighs people who grew up beside him. Kai dismembers and incapacitates Rick without killing him, heals him enough to survive, and brings him to Kassandra at the guild.
