A-Qing

A-Qing is a quick-witted street girl who pretends to be blind, travels with Xiao XingChen, and later remains in Yi City as a spirit. Her memories expose Xue Yang's deception, and her final intervention helps Lan WangJi strike him through the city's fog.

Biography

A life on the road

A-Qing survives by pretending that her white eyes leave her blind, stealing from people who lower their guard. After trying to take Xiao XingChen's money pouch, she follows him on his wandering night-hunts. She continues the blind act so he will not send her away, while her actual sight lets her quietly observe the people around them. (Chapters 38–39)

Yi City

When Xiao XingChen brings the injured Xue Yang into their household, A-Qing distrusts the stranger and watches him carefully. She witnesses Xue Yang deceive Xiao XingChen into killing living villagers and Song Lan. After Xiao XingChen learns the truth and dies, A-Qing flees Yi City to seek cultivators who can help, but Xue Yang finds her, blinds her with powder, removes her tongue, and kills her. (Chapters 39–41)

Witness and guide

As a spirit, A-Qing spends years in Yi City warning travelers away and hiding from Xue Yang. She leads Wei WuXian and the juniors to Xiao XingChen's coffin and shares her memories through Empathy. During the final fight, she follows Xue Yang through the fog and marks his position with her bamboo pole until he destroys her spirit with a talisman. Wei WuXian recovers only scattered fragments, which Song Lan accepts into his care. (Chapters 38, 41–42)

Appearance and personality

A-Qing is a small, lively girl with an oval face, sharp chin, and pupil-less white eyes. Those eyes can originally see; she uses their appearance as a survival tactic. She is energetic, sharp-tongued, suspicious, and courageous enough to confront Xue Yang even after death. (Chapters 38–42)

Abilities and cultivation

A-Qing is not a trained cultivator. Her capabilities come from survival on the street—performance, theft, observation, and stealth—and later from the limited ways a spirit can communicate with the living.

Performance, observation, and stealth

She pretends to be blind, using a bamboo pole, unfocused gaze, and practiced mannerisms to encourage pity while hiding how much she sees. The performance lets her steal small amounts, move through Yi City without attracting serious attention, and observe Xue Yang when he assumes blindness makes her harmless. (Chapters 38–40)

Her information remains constrained by access. She can see gestures Xiao XingChen misses and follow Xue Yang secretly, but she cannot defeat a cultivator or safely warn Xiao XingChen once Xue Yang becomes suspicious. Her courage consists of continuing to gather and preserve evidence despite that imbalance.

Spirit guidance and Empathy

After death, A-Qing persists as a spirit in Yi City's fog. She uses the tapping of her bamboo pole to guide Wei WuXian's group, warn them away from danger, and identify the route toward the buried truth. The signals are indirect and can be misunderstood; she cannot simply deliver a complete spoken testimony. (Chapters 38 and 42)

Wei WuXian's Empathy allows her strongest memories to be experienced directly. Through them, he sees Xue Yang's manipulation of Xiao XingChen and understands A-Qing's attempts to intervene. Empathy preserves her perspective rather than granting objective omniscience, but because she was the concealed eyewitness, that perspective supplies evidence no surviving cultivator possessed.
